Driving home at about 9:30 at night and a deer jumped out right in front of us. Was only going about 30 - 35 MPH and braked as hard as possible. We hit the deer and it rolled off to the side and laid down. Got out to check the damage and fortunately it only damaged the hood and the grill. Meanwhile the deer ran off so I guess it was not hurt too bad. Body shop estimate is just over a $1000 which is covered by or comprehensive insurance. Possibly more damage may be revealed after they get the hood opened. The body shop is to transfer all decals and sound blanket to the new hood.
Anyone else had damage like this? Anything to be on the look out when we pickup the car at the body shop?
Yes, I would say we were fortunate too. The deer was quite large. Its abdomen was higher than the bumper. If we had hit it at full speed, I think it could have come through the windshield!
Got my Fit back yesterday and the body shop ( Specialty Paint and Body ) did a really good job. 5 year warranty on the paint. The only hidden damage was the hood hinges needed replacing, which the insurance company covered.
Glad you guys are fine. A guy I bought OEM Rims and winters from told me he hit a deer doing about 90kms and drove it home...I took it as a good vote on the crash test. I'm big on deer whistles but they could just be superstition. Cheers
and yah, i too worry about when i will hit a deer. i have a lot of wooded areas and always feel like something's going to jump out. deer are so stupid too.

Looks like the repairs came out nice.

That's my tally over the last 20 years or so. Most were at dawn or dusk and the second on with the '06 Accord was the most expensive at $3,500.
Our roadsides are littered with dead deer - especially this time of the year. Our comp rates reflect it, too.
Glad all turned out well.

So, the best way to get deer in your area is with an Accord. Duly noted.
