Hello!


I have a 2015 Honda Fit LX with 51K miles and bought it in August of 2014. I have heard from mechanics and even dealers that the CVT transmission is not great and will die around 100K.

How long will the CVT last? or should i be better off trading my car in before it craps out on me.

 

Might be wrong here.. But you got the 100k (or maybe its 90k) mile /7years warranty on powertrain right? That should cover it if you have any issues.
Imo you might aswell ride it out for the next 4-5 years until that warranty runs out, then trade in. By then maybe gen4 fit's will be here.
But I mean if you trade in now, you'll just get a 2017, and that might have the same transmission as the 2015 (maybe?).

 

I have the basic 60K powertrain. I think i might get the upgraded warranty if I do decide to keep the car.

 

Shouldn't questions about Gen III Fits (2015+) be in the Gen III section rather than in the Gen II section of the forum? Just asking since that's where people with the same car would be.

 

Honda has been using a CVT in the Civic for about 10 years. Wouldn't we have heard of catastrophic failures by now?

I know of at least one GK owner who had more than 100k on his. He got rid of his for an unrelated issue.

I've got about 38k on mine and so far so good. OP, have you done the transmission fluid on yours yet?

 

Definitely not a specialist in CVT's, never even drove one before, but I like the technology behind it.
From all that I've read about CVT's is that the transmission fluid changes need to happen religiously especially according to your driving conditions. Simple fluid changes, without flushing. Flushing can ruin a transmission in some cases.

If you do all highway driving, you can push it to the recommended intervals.

If you do mostly city driving, rush hour stop-n-go on the highway, short trips (under 5 min), heavy loads, mountain area, or drive on dusty roads, then you absolutely have to change it at half that interval.
