Ticking sound please help

I need help please. This morning I started my fit and I'm getting this unusual ticking sound. When I drive the car it gets louder and faster. Sounds like it's coming from the head or intake manifold area. Thanks in advance

How many miles?

Good job on the video, but it's so hard to tell without hearing it in person. My guess without listening in person is either an exhaust leak, or it's in need of a valve adjustment.

It has 120,xxx. I was also thinking it needs a valve adjustment. There's no check engine light on and drives smooth.

Hopefully you are doing your regular oil changes and using correct oil. Hopefully it's not the timing chain slapping due to malfunctioning tensioner or stretched chain.

I've been using honda oil with a oem filter. I change the oil every 3,000 miles or at 50% which ever comes first. I am a maintenance freak.

Valve adjustment is a good guess then. They are due for inspection every 60,000 miles.

Hopefully, you checked the oil level first?

Just an update i brought the car to the dealership and had the recall done for the lost motion spring and it fixed the problem. They said one of the springs went bad. Got it fixed for free. So i encourage you guys to check the recalls for the 09 owners and see if your vin is included in the recall

If they haven't been done, they are overdue. These cars are also prone to spark plugs loosening and eventually ejecting from the head.

I recommend either doing the work yourself or finding a reputable import/Honda repair shop in your area. Whether a shop does it or you do the work, look at the coils yourself for signs of soot. If any of them are brown, that plug was leaking.

Few dealers or repair shops are very familiar with Fits. Sad, but even dealers don't know of the importance of valve adjustments or the extremely high rate of failure of spark plugs with higher miles in Fits.

Hard to tell in a video, but I don't hear a leaking spark plug.

Most of that noise is just the injectors opening and closing which is normal. The additional noise is valvetrain and most of that is normal. Neither are crazy loud.

Are you the original owner? If not, do you have the maintenance records?

If they have never been done, the valves need to be physically adjusted.

Try making sure your spark plugs are tight. Had the same issue and just fixed it today.

How challenging is it to get to the spark plugs? I've got a 2012 with 83,000 miles and keep thinking I should have the valves/plugs checked/adjusted/replaced/tightened. I called one dealer and they quoted $400 for valve adjustment. I'd take it to my local family garage (wonderful people) but I bet they don't get many Fits. I hear you have to remove the cowl and that it's frequently done wrong. How tough (and any write ups) on removing the cowl?

If your "mind's eye" has at least 20/30 vision and you are fairly good at using only your left hand, you can do the plug change out without taking off the cowling under the windshield. You won't be able to torque the plugs to their proper level ~15 lb-ft with a torque wrench (no room) but you can follow the torque methodology on the spark plug box (additional quarter turn or so past point when first snug) but the 1/4 turn thing is good enough.

Taking the cowling off isn't that bad. Losing a $2 black plastic push pin seems to be common (happened to me) but the rest is easy with instructions.
