Ditto the above, but will add that $400 isn't unreasonable for having the job done. I would just ask for them to include spark plug change while there. It probably adds 5 minutes to the valve adjustment job.

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking the same thing, have the dealer do the valves and plugs at the same time. I'll also include the drive belt change. My stepson, (I originally bought the car for him to commute to UCONN), has an internship in Fairbanks Alaska this summer. The Fit is currently in Connecticut so I'll be driving to Chicago to leave it with him and then he'll drive from Chicago to Fairbanks. Its got approx 85,000 miles so I want to get some things done that will be coming up anyway prior to the trip. My preference is no spark plug blowouts while in the middle of nowhere on the AlCan highway!

Noise

That motor sounds fine to me. Time to adjust the valves and make it run smoother. Not a real problem yet, but adjust those valves. Try some Rislone in the oil, its an additive that quiets old engines and makes them run better. It should run really well with the valves adjusted and a bit of Rislone.

Best of luck, Clay

Someone comented that noise from the thread starter could be an exhaust leak?
Does exhaust leak sound metalic? That's insteresting to know, because that leads me to think exhaust leak could be something to check on my car for the metalic issue i am hearing. That could be the issue.

To me, it wouldn't be 'metallic'. In my past experiences, I would either here 'whistling' / 'puffing' if the problem was nearer the back of the car. If nearer the engine, I would hear more of the combustion explosion / un-muffled detonation sound.

My '11 Sport AT, has loose valve noise that slowly goes away as the engine warms up (takes longer when starting out in winter temps). There seems to be some other 'clicking' sounds coming from the EGR (exhaust gas recirc) device mounted on passenger side in front of the cylinder head. Maybe remove and clean. These were sooty on my some previous cars.
