Spark plug socket boot rubber stuck on plug-solved
Spark plug socket boot rubber stuck on plug-solved
Hello, I'm sharing a bit of advice after a nightmare today. While changing plugs, the last plug got the rubber boot from inside my spark plug socket stuck on the porcelain. I tried fishing it out with various picks, forceps and needle nose pliers for 4 hours. It was a very hard piece of rubber and was blocking the socket from grabbing the hex on the plug. I thought, what the hell and used my propane camping stove to heat up the spark plug socket. I then quickly shoved it down into the spark plug hole and pushed right through the rubber with the heated socket. It was hot enough to melt through the rubber and grab the hex on the spark plug. After inspecting the boot, I learned I would've NEVER got it out with a hook or stabbing it forever. The end.
The old spark plug was loose but the gasket or rubber boot on the new plug was from the spark plug socket when I installed a new one, not the coil. I don't know why the #4 was loose. It had some oil on it and didn't look too well.
