Help on Oxygen Sensor Problem

Hi guys. Finally registered an account. New here

I own a GE 2009 and recently got an error code of P0135 which appears as "Air Fuel Ration (A/F) Sensor (Sensor 1) Heater Circuit Malfunction" and was advised to replace the oxygen sensor.

I got a reference to the OEM Honda part number from hondapartsnow.com which is this :Honda Part No.: 36531-RB0-003
and which is really expensive.

I then asked someone who said that he replaced it with an OE one from Denso, which is this : DENSO 234-9077
Amazon link :
Denso 234 9077 Denso 234 9077
which is cheaper than the OEM one.

My question is : Should I go for the OE one and is it a safe purchase? Anyone here experienced this and bought the OE instead?
Just wanna solve this problem cause the Check Engine Light on my dashboard is just quite annoying.

Thank you

Rye

Just my $.02...

I have seen reports of fake sensors being sold on eBay and Amazon.

Check rockauto.com as an option. Might be a bit more than Amazon, but that's because you'll be getting the legit Denso part.

Thanks for the response man. I got one reference from their website. It's this part .

Just had two questions about this (to which I emailed them already)

1. Can they guarantee that this part is genuine and is a direct.safe replacement for the OEM part? And is there a warranty just in case?

2. I am confused whether this is an upstream of a downstream. The Error Code above says it's Sensor 1, so is it safe to assume that this is Upstream?

Thanks for the reply. Got this from their website : Denso 2349077
Just wondering if it is really genuine and if they have warranty.

Also I do not know if 2009 GEs have one oxygen sensor and if mine is an Upstream. One reference says that for vehicles with single manifolds, there's only one sensor which is typically found before the Catalytic Converter. Can you or anyone confirm this?

Thank you.

Oh, and Autozone has it too : Autozone's Oxygen Sensor

I think Autozone's a safer bet. What do you think?

You have an upstream O2 sensor (sensor 1) that is before the catalytic converter and a downstream sensor that is after the catalytic converter. That is normal.

Primary job of the upstream is to read air/fuel ratio and primary job of the downstream is to monitor the efficiency of the cat.

RockAuto, Autozone, hondapartsnow, local dealer...all safe. Amazon and eBay are not safe because you don't know who is actually supplying the part.

So that's upstream for me then. Really appreciate the help

Not the same

Air-fuel Ratio sensors are NOT the same as 02 sensors. They may look the same, but they are not the same. People use the term interchangeably between the two because they look the same. Honda does not manufacture air-fuel ratio sensor or 02 sensors. They buy these items from a manufacturer that makes them to Hondas's spec. and put their name on the box or product.

Came here looking for similar info; 2009 fit, getting code P0420-catalytic converter inefficient, or whatever. Most of what I have read says this is a discrepancy between the upstream and downstream O2 sensors, but I can only find one; right at the front/upstream of the CC. Looking for someone to tell me where the other one is, or that some have only one. But I swear there is only the one upstream, crawled all underneath tracing the exhaust and it's pretty open, no other connections except for mounts.

See the attached screen shot from the SM for a 2009-2010 Fit, sensor 2 is in the area of the cat. Hope this helps a little. Perhaps it's on top of the pipe and not easy to see ??

You should see one sensor in the engine compartment. Look at where the exhaust exits the cylinder head at the back of the motor. That one screws straight down and is kind of under the cowl on at GE Fit. This one is Honda part #36531-RB0-003

The other one is underneath the car a couple of feet back. If my memory is correct, it threads in from the passenger side. This one is Honda part #36532-RB1-004

So it's up higher just after the exhaust manifold? guess I was looking at the downstream one; never thought of two CCs in series. Have to get the daugher to drive it back out; its her car now.
