2010 Fit stick shift - timing chain tensioner.

There’s a lag in acceleration - quite serious at times. It happens at shifting up. I’m thinking the chain tensioner is not doing it’s job properly and so the timing is out for that split second it takes to shift. Anyone else experienced this or has knowledge of it in this or any other vehicle? 185,000 miles on the clock.

Maybe. The timing chain should clack if it's loose. If you really want to you could open the timing cover up and make sure it's tight in there. But you'll need the Honda special tool to take out the crank pulley Bolt. Cause that sucker is on there friggin tight. It's not hard to change timing tensioner. Just time consuming. Plan a full day if you do it. You'd have to take out the battery. Intake. To get to the valve cover. Which you have to take off to undo the top bolts to take of timing cover. Then u have to unbolt the crank pulley then undo all the side and bottom bolts of the timing cover. Once the cover is off it's easy to inspect or replace. Then once that's done you'll have to scrap all the gasket stuff off the timing cover. Re glue it and reassemble everything. It'll literally take a whole day so I'd make sure it's the timing chain tensioner before you attempt.

If there's no audible clack I'd put my money on something else. Maybe gears not engaging. Could be transmission flywheel or clutch related.

it has to do with the driveline. Think about how a car works. The shaft connects to the wheel which connects to the transmission which is connected to the engine. If there's a lag in acceleration. It's either the transmission that transfers power from the engine or the engine itself isn't combusting as fast as it should which would mean fuel air spark related. If there's no problems with the fuel, air, or spark. (or timing) Then it has the be the transmission.

Clean your intake. Then run fuel cleaner. Check your sparks plugs. Then go from there.

A time chain would not cause these symptoms.

That's one helluvan expensive guess, but it's not a tensioner issue.

Worn tensioner and you’d likely have a rattle at start up and code for cam phase out of sync.
