Intermittent Noise - Any Ideas?

2011 LX MT 31,000km

Seem to be hearing a vibration or rattle lasting a few seconds at a time. It's coming from the engine compartment in front of the passenger side, so probably from the engine. Happens in second or third gear, usually between 2,200 and 3,500 rpm. Not very loud, just enough that I notice it and wonder what it is. Hard to say but it might not be happening when the blower fan is turned off.

Has anyone experienced this? Will post a recording later.

We have a mechanical rattling/grinding noise on acceleration from time to time which lasts a second or two. 2011 Sport Auto with 64k miles.

- Some suggested exhaust heatshield. The dealer added more screws and bent that a bit on our Fit with no luck.

- Or possibly axel heatshield

- Or catalytic converter heatshield

Check your sparkplugs as well, I was getting a rattle under certian conditions and found two loose plugs causing it.

tough call.....

not many miles on the vehicle.......

find a long hill to roll down....

rev engine to those rpms....... see if you hear anything.......

determine if the vehicle does it under different load conditions....

Is it more metallic in sound...... or more clunky?

and metallic more tinnie or

does it sound like someone is dragging a thin piece of metal on the ground (momentarily)???????

Be as descriptive as you can?

Try a bumpy road......... too.....

My car started doing this about 2 weeks ago,, in my case its because the AC clutch is not fully releasing and spins the AC pump all the time. When I watch it,, it seems like what its doing is slipping and chattering making the noise, and the pump pulses echo through the lines.. You can feel it if you touch the AC line...

Mine is a 07 though..
