Magic Seat Fix?

Hello,

I recently bought a 2009 Fit Sport that had a few interior issues, and one of these is that the driver's side magic seat does not fold up into the tall mode position. When I called the dealership that I bought it from, they told me that I needed to push it in harder and that apart from that, they have no idea as to why it wouldn't work. I tried researching this issue, but I don't think anyone has ever been able to solve this so I went and tried it myself. When I opened up the side part of the seat I found some rust that I cleaned off and I also discovered that the black piece that I have circled in one of my pictures is much further back than it should be. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or is it not even the issue in the first place?

Thanks!

That "black" piece is just a painted portion of the bigger piece of metal. It is painted so that it is less obvious there's a chunk of metal sticking out from under the plastic cover you took off.

Did you actually look at how the whole thing is supposed to move when putting it in tall mode?

What I do sometimes is, lift the seat up, fold the leg under it and then shoulder push it into the back rest until it locks. The issue is that, until the seat is lifted up somewhat, you can't fold the leg, but if you don't fold the leg, the seat won't lock in tall mode.

Have you compared the operation of the other magic seat to the one in question?

I ended up doing this last night. I initially thought that they would be different but that's not the case, as the black piece that I have circled in the image is connected to a larger piece of metal that's supposed to be easy to move around.

My guess was rust is inside the metal and since I can't remove it, I've been letting some CLR sit on it overnight. I was able to move it a little but I needed a ton of force, so letting it sit for now.

How the seat works in tall mode is that the flimsy piece that has a ball on the end of it is supposed to move when you push the bar down. Mine does that, but since the metal is stuck in place the rest of it does not operate right.

I'll update if I can find anything else out!

Hey everyone, I managed to get the seat back into working condition

I also
about how to fix this and why mine was messed up in the first place - check it out if you need to know more because I don't think that there are any other videos on this topic out there.
