Smoking rear tail lights
Smoking rear tail lights

I bought a new set of tail lights for my new 2009 fit and decided to smoke the clear lense a little. The paint is fine, infact perfect, but a little too dark.
Is there anyway of removing the paint without damaging the plastic lense or even fine cutting a layer off the paint to make it a bit lighter.
I've been told that brake fluid does the job. How true is this?

Thanks for you great comments, but I'm trying to get it perfect. I wish we had the Fit Sport in Thailand. Your cars look awsome.
Here's a pic of the lights before spraying. I just wanted to take away the bright silver with a very very light smoke tint.
Actually, after the first coat of paint they looked perfect, but everyone said they need to be a little darker. Hmm one coat too much.
Do you think very fine wet sanding and buffing will do the trick, to remove one layer of paint?

Yeh, I just painted the actual silver/chrome part with leyland grey smoke transparent.
You must take out the lights, Get rid of all wax and mask well. Spray about 12 inches from lights with single coats at a time, allow to dry between coats until you get the correct darkness. I found that using T-Cut you can reduce the darkness a little if needed.
Some of my friends have used tinting film as it can be removed at any time and the correct color can be chosen before applied. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNwRBS0UcAg
Either way plan well before you do it and take your time !!!!
