first off, forget about the bulbs altogether. You're barking up the wrong tree there. What I've been trying to convey is the importance of the bulb SOCKET. go back and re-read ALL the posts carefully (in my posts, I try to choose my words carefully). I know there's a lot of back and forth from several people, but if you read all the posts carefully, you wil follow the thinking.

Anybody feel free to correct my statements below to the US based guys waiting for JDM lamps (all my words based solely on the base JDM lamp as I have not seen an LED version):

1. The USDM wire harness (on the car) will plug 'n play 100% with the JDM taillamp and bulb sockets (confirmed from Tork & by pics from Squawking7500).
2. IF you get a JDM lamp without bulb sockets, the USDM turn signal and tail/stop sockets will transfer over 100% (firsthand experience myself).
3. IF you get a JDM lamp without bulb sockets, the USDM back up socket WILL NOT transfer. It is smaller than the hole, it will fall in the lamp, then you will look at the heavens and want to scream (firsthand experience myself).

[strike]
4. IF you get a JDM lamp without bulb sockets, you MUST source a JDM backup bulb socket from somewhere where the JDM lamp is used (i.e. Japan, Philippines, Thailand, etc.) (firsthand experience myself & confirmed by JDM_DOHC_SiR).
5. My first stop at both the local Honda and Acura dealerships was unsuccessful in finding a US socket that would, a) fit in the JDM lamp and b) mate up to the USDM connector (confirmed by JDM_DOHC_SiR). Maybe you will have better success with your own local parts guy. If so, post up the part number so future readers can have it.
[/strike]

*Update* 4. IF you get a JDM lamp without bulb sockets, you will have to get pn 33515-S50-003 online or from your local dealer to use for the backup function. It is used on both Hondas and Acuras so if one dealer is out of stock try the other. I got mine locally for about $4.50 each ($2+ online but then you have to pay shipping too).

Lastly for qbmurderer13,

6. The JDM backup function uses a W21W bulb. As far as I know, this bulb is pretty common in the US also (on other Japanese cars) and can be purchased at all your usual bulb places. To be on the safe side, check your store first or just get the bulb WITH your socket. *edit: the USDM number for the W21W bulb is a 7440*

I hope that clears up all the hulla-balloo for everyone considering this swap. I say its worthwhile and everyone shouldn't be concerned as long as they get their backup socket. Ok?

Hi, I'm interested in the exchange for the non-LED JDM tail lights. I have a custom smoked/tinted (20%) USDM ones. But it can also be taken off if you desire.

I'm out its just too costly. I might as well work a deal with Nori to exchange or buy them from Japan.

Sorry Guys.

Install was fairly easy, hardest part was trying to stretch that brake harness wire and plug it into the bulb. You have to stretch it about 3-4 inches and theres very little room. Plus I also dropped one of the 8mm nuts into the abyss. Make sure you have extra nuts cause if you dont it wont sit flush.

To the people with the ability to purchase new JDM tails and ship, what is the typical price and est shipping to the US?

This will help all the people who are on the fence about getting them.

Hello ajay777, nice to meet you sir. Thanks for helping out on this!

again, prices for shipping listed below

open an account with USPS it is easy and filling out customs paper work is also much easier.
on the form.

put 'gift' wherever possible (or general merchandise as a second choice).

for the item put,
used plastic tail lights

for value there is a choice to make, I put $10 ea
but that is all the free insurance you will get, and you cant buy additional VALUE OF $10 EACH HELPS THEM FROM HAVING TO PAY IMPORT DUTY!!!!!!!!

Note for my business I send thousands of dollars of press parts to Asia each year and mostly use USPS International Priority and have NEVER had a problem so the $10 ea value should be fine.

Priority Mail® International 6 - 10 Days $63.00 $59.85 (second price is the online price) figured at 8 lbs 15 ounces and I used a fairly heavy box and wrapped them in 3 layers of bubble wrap. And I included a gift, you should also. Mine was USDM brochures on fit and civic (think about it, would YOU not enjoy receiving Honda brochures from Thailand????)

.

if you put $50,
the recipient may have to pay a lot more duty (dont know Thailands .....

HI Tork nice to meet you too sir.

for your information for shipping to thailand

i heard that if the value that you fill plus the shipping cost more than 100 $ usd.we have to pay for tax here in bangkok.and we won't get the mail at home, have to go to the post office to pay tax first and will get the mail, but if the cost lower than 100 $ we will get the mail at our home and we will not pay for tax

i've ever bought the crv taillight from Ebay USA first time the taillight was 100 $ shipping cost 50 $ i have to pay around 10$ for tax.second time the SI lights was 80$ shipping cost 45$ but the seller fill 20 $ in the valve,so i didn't pay for tax

and do not forget to send us as a GIFT

i have civic coupe si year 2000 with b20b turbo engine ,many part i order from the USA and now i'm waiting for the sunroof from USA,
fit is my sister's car

by the way i sent Qbmurderer13 the coinholder as a gift

how much for USDM fit headlight ?

thanks

2 questions.

1. if I read your statement right, should they put $15 each tail light as value? And that and the $60? shipping = about $90....does that avoid the duty charge???

2. What is a good gift to send along back to Thailand? I went with usdm brochures as that was all I could think of on very short notice....and I know I would myself have been thrilled with Thailand Honda brochures.

dear TORK
1.i'm not sure about that.the second time that i didn't pay for tax ,the seller put 20 $ for the value of both taillights so it's cost 10$ per each

Hey ajay777

I edited my post above to reflect $10 value each (maybe you could edit where you quoted me so there isn't conflicting info???)

No Squawking and I spent most of January working out the details.
He sent me a gift (coin holder), so I had to think fast about what to send him.
So the brochures might have been an idea I came up with on the tail light return.
So Preaw didnt know at the time, other wise I know he would have sent Thailand or JDM brochures as he is a very kind and thoughtful guy.
