Will door visors reduce wind noise?

Greetings all,

I like to lower my windows an inch or two for better ventilation but find this quite noisy. Can someone please tell me if adding the Honda OEM door visors will reduce this noise and by how much? What I'm trying to find out is do people add these for looks mostly.

Please comment on your experience to help me decide if the visors are worth the trouble.

TIA, olias

I don't have them on my Fit but my guess is it would not reduce the turbulence. I say this because I put them on my Toyota 4x4 and it actually made things worse.

yes is the answer you should have guessed alone. having them help reduce noise while in other cases some people do it for just looks and for the wind reduction. also its nice to have on a hot day and you trip about leaving the window cracked open. not too sure on how much exactly it reduces but its better than not having it. hope that helped.

it is pretty quiet now when i open the window a crack because of the visors. Everyone must get this. I don't see why not as it looks great.

Yes, it will be quieter with the visors when you have your windows cracked, but noisier when you have the windows closed. The visors are slim, but still cause some air disturbance which wouldn't otherwise be there when the windows are closed.

I finally pulled the trigger on these OEM visors and for $50, its good. Here is my assessment in order of what they improve.

1. reduce glair... especially when the sun is low in the sky.
2. allow air in when parked in the hot sun without security or rain worries.
3. reduce air noise when driving with windows partially down. (original reason ordered)
4. look good without being too obtrusive.

Thanks to all who gave comments. This fitfreak forum is a great resource.

Thanks for the summary Olias.

I have been debating with myself ever since I bought my Fit about getting this mod, so I finally ordered them and hope to install soon. I like that the OEM ones are subtle & blend well with the lines of the car. My neighbor's Chevy truck has visors and they stick out a lot & seem a bit over the top.

My biggest reasons for getting them are:
1. to keep glaring sun out, since the overhead visors don't reach far enough across the window on the driver side
2. to keep water out when it is raining--I have found that the Fit's window shape seems to let more water in when it rains than my Subaru did.

3. I like the added bonus of reduced road noise since I keep the windows cracked and am not a big fan of a/c unless it is painfully hot out.

Normally, I'm the same way... but since the mosquitoes have been out, I'm actually too terrified to open my windows. I go a bit crazy when I'm bitten.

Unless you like to stick your head out the window, now the opening is a bit smaller. I actually bumped my head on the visor when I was trying to look at something outside of my car, obviously forgetting that I had just installed them. whoops.

Conventional wisdom dictates that most wind noise on cars comes from the way the air bounces off the A-pillars (i.e. the front-most pillars that hold your windshield) and side mirror pods...so I wouldn't expect much of a decrease in wind noise.

While the visors do use part of the A-pillar for mounting, they're set a little too far back for any noise-cutting benefit...although it's interesting how they cut noise when the windows are opened a crack.

Yeah, this is what I was talking about in my third point. It seem to have an effect with even opening the windows 6-8 inches. Anything more, especially at hi-way speeds, then forget about it. I also noticed that its difficult to get the "wub-wub-wub" noise with only the rear windows down.

I should also mention a couple of negative points as well.

1. I seem to get some window vibration from the back. There were some sticky pads that I added to the window track as per instructions. The rear windows loose the support of the rear window track as they open and this is by design. Maybe I just didn't notice the vibration before the visors were installed due to the excess wind noise. So this might not be a negative.

2. Will interfere with ice scraping action in the winter and may crack if you slip and jab them with a scrapper.

Can anyone think of other negatives?

How difficult was the install? I looked at the instructions and was somewhat concerned about getting the metal clips in the track correctly. Any issues or pointers? Thanks

I'm with you on that one. Actually it's not the mosquitoes that worry me the most, it's the bees. Around here they'll nest in anything they can and I have to watch the car like a hawk. An open window behind a visor? Heaven for them. I don't like suprises when I get in my car. Not THAT kind anyway. A beautiful babe sittin there, well, that's the kind of suprise I could go for! Needless to say, it's been all bugs thus far!

I remain on the fence about the visors. But it's been a year and I still don't have them so I guess it's a no.

Not difficult at all but the instruction are very wordy so the first one seems like it could be when reading them. If you want then do a dry run. Don't do the peel and stick step the first time so you can experiment with the clips. The push pins are totally reusable

Yes! It reduces noise up and to a certain point. If you lower the window much past the bottom of the actual visor then noise begins to increase again... of course. But yes, they've definitely cut down on the wind noise.

I did it for opening windows a bit in the rain (although some aftermarket visors allow you to lower windows a bit more when raining than the OEM Honda visors allow), I did it for decreasing open window noise a bit, and yes, I did it for looks!

I think they are worth it... but that's my opinion. Keep in mind, although not an extreme amount, they do cut visibility an inch or so if looking up into the sky. Like, you may have to lower your head a tad more than usual in order to see those wacky cloud formations way above your side window!

Seriously, I like my visors.

I have noticed tha tmy Mugen visors are bit louder than the OEM version when cruising around 100 and the window is down about 4 inches.
