That was interesting! Looks like it was from Australia and some of those oils aren't available here. I'm not sure what the publication date was.

As for the results, the several people I know with 1,500+ horsepower cars that run in the "Fastest Street Car Shootouts" all run Royal Purple because their engine builders tell them to.

I think I will make the switch also. Overkill...absolutely, but I like overkill

Its not the same oils as here and they are motorcycle oils. I never got the scar test because the base oils are all the same and its saying that its the oil and not the additives. Honda coats the pistons and the oil used is just a carrier. There are about 20 suppliers of base oils in the world and all the oil companies get the same base oils and additives. They might have a secret ingredient but its common to all the companies.

Oil needs to heated to work so I take it the tests are smoke and mirrors. Oil still has to have a API certification when the car is under warranty so keep that in mind. There is new nano tech that has almost 0 friction but you need some friction for the oil heat up and the rings and other things to seal properly and I am still learning about the technology. 10w40 caused lots of problems years ago because of the additives to make it 40 wt and it caused sludge and other problems.

I agree with you here. Also, note that DuraBlend does suspiciously well. The oil must not be heated before which would explain this.

Thumbs up

In case anyone is interested, Quaker State is having a $20 rebate on their Ultimate Durability Full Syn oil. If you go to Walmart and buy the oil there, this basically makes the oil almost free (last time I did this a 5qt. jug just costs about $1-$2 after rebate.).

Quaker State Warranty Support Site -

Just click on the second "Click Here" so that you won't have to sign up for their warranty offer.

The only catch I can see with this warranty is that the receipt that you turn in has to have the Brand and Type listed on the official cash register receipt. Unfortunately, I've bought oil where the receipt shows the Brand, but not the Type. But, thanks, it's worth a try. $20 is well worth it.

^^^^You don't have to opt for the warranty program, you can choose the second "Click Here" so you can avail a rebate form w/o signing up for the warranty, you just get the rebate.

About the receipt stating the brand and type, I thought of the same back then. I have a copy of the receipt of the oil I bought in August 2011 and it just states the weight (5w20 5Qt.) followed by the UPC code. I called them, asked, and they said as long as the UPC code is on the receipt, it IS accepted. Just make sure the UPC code on the receipt matches the one on the jug. Of course call them and ask just to be sure as they may have changed their rules.

Oh yeah, turns out I just paid 51 cents for the 5Qt. jug.

$19.53 for the 5w20 5Qt. jug plus 98 cents tax = 20.51

Received rebate check about 6 weeks later for 20 bucks, 20.51-20=51 cents.

Sounds great. You made out like a bandit. I'll have to try it myself. Thanks, again.

You're welcome guys.

I hope I'm not thread jacking but thinking of just using this thread to post oil deals so that I won't have to create a new thread. What you guys/OP think?

Right now I've got 25qts. of oil but if I come across a very good deal, it's very hard to pass. Lol. My ave. cost per qt. is roughly 65 cents/qt.

Chevron Supreme 5W-20 and Purolator filter changed @ 15%.

Why Chevron and not scamsoil or at least Mobil 1? Chevron is the only company that makes all of the ingredients instead of just blending and bottling. The BMW engine looked new inside after 140,000 miles on Chevron Delo changed per the monitor.

Amsoil for me as well. A mix of their Sig 0w-20 and 0W-30, 2 quarts of each, well just under 2 quarts each and use their filter as well. Actually at the moment have a K&N Gold on as was waiting for new stock to arrive in the mail at last change.

I use redline and mobil 1 in all of my cars. I also would use Amsoil if it was readily available. I dont use royal purple. That stuff is garbage. Ran it in my corvette once and ive never had worse engine ping. Switched back to mobil 1 and it was fine. BTW i use k&n wrench off oil filters in all of my cars
