odd noise from 2011 fit

edit: added to the 2nd gen forum

describing a noise is difficult from the get go, but I'm going to try in case someone has a similar experience.

When I first got it, the fit was nice and quiet with predictable engine noise on acceleration.

Lately, however, I've been hearing a slight whoosh/shhh at some rpm/load situations. It's sort of like radio static but slightly smoother and fairly faint.
As far as I can tell, there's no loss of power, and negligible mpg difference.

It may be just the sound that the engine makes, but it not being prevalent earlier makes me nervous.

I popped the hood, and there doesn't appear to be anything loose on the air intake system, so i dunno.

Anyone else heard something like this?

The AC compressor engaging can do a noise like that. I assume its something about the freon getting up to pressure in the evaporator. You can try turning the AC off/on to see if that gets the noise to occur.

If it is, what you are hearing is the ac compressor disengaging under engine load and then re-engaging when you let up again.

Pretty sure it's not the AC compressor, I was in face/foot mode and no AC on.

I notice it most under the following condition. Traveling at 80 km/h (around 50 mph) in 5th gear and when I pick up speed (moderate acceleration, not mashing it) the shhing gets louder. Letting off the accelerator quiets it.

I have almost the exact problem. It sounds to be like a part throttle whistle from the throttle body but I have not spent much time trying to finger it out yet. Like you mine just started a day ago. I only have 700 miles.

I'm having weird noises coming from my engine. It sounds like radio static, like someone is changing the dial to tune in to in a different radio station. I'll work on uploading a video.

I have 2013, 38k miles. Some days it sounds louder than other days. I notice it more in the afternoon driving home. It's been a few days since I start hearing it.

I'm pretty sure the engine and transmission okay but still the noise is unsettling as there's no pattern. Right now I have 60% left on the MM. Changed transmission and brake fluid at 30k. Was thinking of changing my front brake pads soon.

Has anyone been able to diagnose this? Mine just started this same issue. Sounds like radio static, even though the radio is off. Seems to be coming from the passenger front side.

Yeah for me it was my front brake pads, lol. Changed them out and the noise stopped.

Do you have the fan on? Make sure it's not the blower and turn of the fan when you hear it.
