WTH is up with my wipers?
WTH is up with my wipers?
So yesterday it was raining in NYC, but not much, so I put my wipers on the lowest intermittent setting.....that usually means one wipe every few seconds....
instead my wipers went cray cray, randomly choosing it would go 2, 3, 4 times between breaks, stopping halfway up my windshield, and at one point just going steady as if I had it on the next setting....
any ideas freakers? felt like I was in a sitcom jalopy.

Sounds like a switch issue, though I haven't seen anyone else with this issue before on here. Could be bad or intermittent contact in the switch would be like switching the wipers on and off even on the slow setting would cause it to wipe more than once.
If that makes any sense.

My wiper switch started to act weird, too. Wouldn't go on intermittent or normal. Would work on quick wipe and on high. I took the thing apart, cleaned it, put it back together and now it doesnt work at all. Just rear wiper and the spray on both rear and front.
I'm hoping a new switch will fix the problem. Will be ordering one tomorrow.

fixed....4 now
So I was took out the motor and when I unplugged it, I noticed some water and gunk had gotten between the plugs....blew it out and let it dry...put it together and so far so good.

Well, the motor and connector were bone dry and very clean. I did hook up power to the pins of the wiper motor and the low speed did not work. I took the motor assembly apart and found that there was a very deep grove where the contact meets the moving part. I bent the contact over a bit so it didn't sit in the well-worn rut. I put everything back and tested it and it all worked as it should.
What didn't work was the switch on the steering column. I ordered one and as soon as I got it and connected it, everything worked.
In all of Canada, there were only three of these parts. Apparently the switch rarely fails.
Anyway, all is well. The switch was a 30 dollar part.
BTW, if you take the wiper motor apart, make sure you have dielectric grease and Hondabond on hand. There is no gasket between the plastic cover and the rest of the wiper motor. Hence the Hondabond. It looks like the motor comes from the factory with Hondabond, so it was a no brainer.

so I might try replacing the switch.....
noticed my wipers dont want to work at all now until the car is warmed up or at least 5 minutes of warming up...which makes no sense...I'll submit an update if I get this sorted. This winter has been trying between my grinding starter, wipers, and hatch lever feeling off...
thanks!
