Eneos Fully Synthetic
Eneos Fully Synthetic
OK. My MM is winding down to 30% now and I'm unhappy with the mileage im getting from the Royal Purple 0w20 I put in last November. I was getting 8k per oil change with Honda OEM conventional oil, and i thought my MM would last longer with synthetic. I know they say count on blah blah miles but again the MM is going down faster than previous oil changes.
I'm thinking about Eneos. Anybody use or have comments about it?

Call me crazy but I wouldn't run that long between oil changes even with synthetic and especially not with RP. I did that once in my Z and did not like the way that the RP looked when I took it out after 7k
I now will go 5k max on M1 no matter what the MM tells me. The way I drive that's basically once or twice a year for an oil change and I get my jugs of oil at Walmart for cheap.

i run 8-10k mile intervals with Torco SR-1 5-30 in the GD torco is a fully 100 percent synthetic. basically them and amsoil are the big brands in this category.. about 12 dollars a quart. never had a problem and the oil wears perfectly. i used to use purple but it wasn't doing it for me anymore. i would switch if i was you. Also i like running a slightly higher viscosity. it feels more sturdy.
No.
I would change the oil at more fixed intervals. According to my MM the oil is still awesome at 60%.
But its been 6 months and 8 or 9k miles. Thus, I'm going to change it sometime next week.

My $.02.
Check oil at every gas fill up. How does it look on dip-stick? Kinda of dark, not looking clean?
How is the engine revving - especially at high RPM, a bit rough, not its usual free revving self?
Does the engine give off a "hot" smell?
Change it. (Using Mobil 1 syn. 0W20)
Change filter too and put a good one on. I use top of the line Fram.
My MM has never read less than 40%.

for my research and money royal purple although not making the best oil these days does make the best oil filter you can get from a brick and mortar that is readily available.. its like 14 bucks but worth it.
people wanting to skimp in their cars, oil, maintenance for small amounts of money to me doesn't make any sense. spend a little money now and save yourself a lot later.

Eneos makes good oil. Their standard 0W-20 is very good, but there are better oils for a similar price. TGMO (Toyota Genuine Motor Oil) can be had for $6/qt and is just about the best 0W-20 oil out there, save for maybe Eneos Sustina (which is 2x as expensive). By the way, the MM is pretty much always on the conservative side. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get 10K OCI's out of TGMO or even standard Eneos 0W-20. The only real way to know would be to have a used oil analysis.
At any rate, use 0W-20 and I suggest TGMO - it's amazing stuff. Honda's previous oil filter was quite solid and you can still get them on eBay. Just search for A01 as opposed to A02.
Here's an excellent thread for information on TGMO including a virgin oil analysis.

My 2 cents - use any filter with an anti-drainback valve. As long as you do oil/filter changes at proper intervals, it won't matter what manufacturer you go with (as long as it has the valve, so not FRAM).
