L15A7 Decat & EGR Delete CEL

Hi Everyone,

Looking to use an L15A7 engine in a hovercraft. Obviously have no requirement nor want for a cat.

I assume this will also require removing and blocking off the EGR?

As a result, I'm pretty sure one or both of these will throw a CEL. My question is, can i just ignore it and keep running the engine? Or will this run it in some sort of limp mode? I realise I wont get warning should some other malfunction occur.

What are the options to electronically delete the cat and EGR?

Following on from all this, do i need O2 sensors? can these be gotten away with too?

For the most part, the engine will only be operating in the 2000-3500 RPM range and usually at a constant throttle position.

Cheers,

Scott

I suspect that since the air fuel mixture can not be maintained and adjusted to the engine condition, i.e. load, temperature, etc, the mixture will be off. This will result in either excessive carbon build up, sludge, or running too lean, which might case a burnt valve or a piston.

Bottom line, the engine is unlikely to work reliably for any reasonably extended period of time.

It's kind of like putting a gas mask on you and making you run in death valley at 120 F, while also wearing a diver's suit and breathing sulfuric acid fumes. Sure you will run for a bit, just ignore the check engine light

Thanks John,

Is that with just the decat and EGR block off? Or without O2 sensors too?

Cheers

You will need the 1st O2 sensor to run. The 2nd O2 sensor is not necessary (but you will get a cel).
You might consider a Weapon R ( https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...eader-ge8.html ) or T1R "header" this would give you an option to remove the cats, but keep a place to mount the O2 sensors and EGR. The EGR will probably not hinder your performance. This ( http://hpd.honda.com/content/racing-...F99_100701.pdf ) might be a good source of info for using this engine in other platforms?

Thanks for that, good to know.

Yeah, I've already been in contact with HPD and advised they cant sell any of that to me as I'm not in FF and overseas - both no no's for them. I haven't seen any of these item on the used market though either.

I also spoke to Ktuner and they can code out the CEL from the second O2 and/or EGR Blockoff. Is there any other (preferably cheaper) options? I don't need any other tuning ability.

Cheers

something I have been looking into would be to swap the timing wheel from the l15a1 into the l15a7 and that way you could run the l15a1 ecu and use flashpro on top of that to give you full tuning abilities.
