My steering wheel has been torn at 2 spots because of steering lock. I am thinking to replace with FD2R steering wheel. However, my steering wheel has volume and auto cruise buttons. Can it be transferred to FD2R steering wheel? Any modification need to be done?

 

Why even bother with the change? The wheels are very similar.

 

I am afraid that the volume & auto cruise buttons cannot fit it.

 

I swapped to a FD steering wheel just fine. The civic buttons are wired differently to the spiral assy so I just swapped the jazz/fit buttons to the civic wheel. My stock wheel was the basic round type. The new civic wheel diameter is smaller and more sporty.

 

Your pictures are upside down.

Not entirely unexpected though, as you are upside down too down in Australia.

Sorry I wasn't clear, the two photos are of the same civic steering wheel. I just swapped the buttons and stitched a leather cover to it in the second photo. The wheel is from a 2007 FD civic. Sorry I don't have part numbers (bought used).

The civic steering wheels in aus are all like the above (smaller OD vs the jazz).

 

hey dumb question, but is there a writeup on how to remove the steering wheel?

I have a base and picked up a sport wheel because I felt it was easier and cheaper than buying the leather wrap kit. From what I can guesstimate, you need to pull the negative cable for the battery and wait a while, and there are two bolts on opposing sides to remove the airbag (anyone know what size they are??). Am I missing anything??

 

Yep pretty much what you wrote. There is a tutorial for retrofitting steering wheel controls that you can see photos of the wheel removal.

When disconnecting battery I press the brake pedal a few times till the pedal is hard to press. Then wait a few minutes to make sure. Good luck!

Thanks! It was a pain to stitch up and its not perfect as you can see in the photo at 3,9 and 10 oclock positions.

could you use the black plastic on the steering wheel from the FN instead of the silver from the jazz?

Did you use the ge8 airbag on the FD too?

i am thinking about swapping my GE8 with either an FD wheel or maybe an FN2R.
