I got a TW Sport A/T (I wanted a manual, but the dealership didn't have them and my girlfriend drives my car sometimes.... to think what she'd do to my clutch ) GE8...
And I love it. His name is Bobby. He came with steelies (despite being the sport model) and I don't have money for rims yet, so I painted the hub covers. I think they came out allright.

 

If I was your girlfriend I would smack you for saying that. Why did it come with steel rims? Did you buy it used or something? Looks good with black rims by the way.

 

She would too. But my smile gets me out of alot of trouble.

I dunno why it had steel rims- but it helped, we pretended like it was a big selling point and got an extra $1500 off... and I was planning on buying my own rims for it soon enough anyway.

I was thinking about getting my stock alloys powered coated black b/c the style of them I personally like(they aren't my favorite but look good). I haven't done it yet....or tinted windows.....I will probably wait until summer when I work more.

I don't see how painting what you have is stupid. Some of the cheap aftermarket wheels I've seen look horrible. It's better to save up and get decent wheels rather than get cheap knock offs that look horrid, and the painted steelies doesn't look bad. I don't know if it looks good, though, since the exposures on all the pictures are far too dark to show what the wheels actually look like.

 

Some of the best rims I have ever since have been custom powered coated rims....IMO they look really good b/c they are a rim other people have but they have there own custom touch without spending a ton of money.

Like find a nice set of rims on craigslist for $150 dollars or a little more spend $200 dollars for a solid color or about $250-$300 depending on how custom and you have a nice set of rims for $350-$450. Yeah you can get rims for that price but not with your own touch.

I think that painting the steel rims to be happy with them while a person saves up there money is a good idea.

Since you only painted the wheel covers you could repaint them again when bore. Nice way to hold you over till new rims.
How much hp you get from the exhaust?

 

i think any cosmetic enhancement someone does to their own car is not stupid at all. remember it has to look good to you not us. Now I think the cover would have looked better in maybe a gun metal or bronze, heck you could even paint a little red lip around the whole thing. Get that badboy dropped too.

That's gloss black paint on the hubcaps isn't it? The gloss makes 'em look good IMO. We don't get GEs with steelies and hubcaps here so it's pretty unique to me.

Yeah, I work at a UPS store and we had a mailing tube scrap.... so I gave my car a 24 hp boost... rofl.

As for the hub covers, I'm not surprised they got a little resistance, as it's different strokes for different folks. Right now, I just put money into subs, stainless steel brake lines, and my next purchases are a radar detector, lowering springs, RSB, and beatrush underpanel.

They actually look pretty good in person, since the gloss and the red bring your eye to the cover, not the steelie behind it (which is matte finish).

I still have yet to get a good photo (gah, i keep borrowing other camera's). It took a couple days, since I sanded them down, washed them, satin black, wait to dry, sand, satin black again, wet sand, hand paint the middles, and then clear coat. All in all, it took 4-5 days.

I don't have the money for rims, but I wanted my car to look unique, so I painted them. I was rolling on bare steelies for a couple of days, but without any other exterior mods, it just makes me look like I don't have hub covers.

I have a general plan for my car and how I want it to look, and it's gonna be alot different than the fits out there. It's gonna get some hate, but, I want it, it's my car, and those who appreciate it will find it to be pretty damn cool....

As far as the bronze, that was my original plan, since when I get rims they will be in bronze. However, I felt that if I painted my covers bronze, it would look even more like "I wish I had rims" instead of "Yeah I roll pimped steelies..... like a boss"

Good thing you went with the gloss black for the hubcaps, I agree 100%. Unless one really looks at the photo or perhaps shines a flashlight to the wheels, the matte-black steelies are barely even noticeable - even less so when in motion.
