2nd Generation GE8 Specific Suspension & Brakes Sub-ForumThreads discussing suspension and brake related modifications for the 2nd generation Honda Fit (GE8)
Recently I purchased a set of Tein lowering springs, SKB74-AUB00. Tonight I installed the rear pair and tomorrow morning I will be doing the fronts. I have a few questions however regarding the rear springs:
1. Is there a left or right spring? I couldn't see any labeling on them to suggest so. Also, I installed them with the Tein logo facing the right way round, there were no I structions that mentioned this.
2. I didn't note where the little "nipple" on the bottom rubber boot was meant to sit. There are a few holes in the bottom cup, I sat it in the smallest one, and it was snug and popped through. I hope this was right?
3. How tight was I supposed to do up the shock bolt? I did pretty tight by hand but not too crazy.
4. I'm running stock factory 16 x 6 inch alloys. I also have some 205/50/16 tyres, namely Kumho HS61. They aren't the greatest but get the job done, plus I got them cheap. When I took it for a test drive with the rear only lowered, I went over a speed hump and hear a creak sound coming from the back. I did hit it quite hard as I wanted to see how it'd go. I wouldn't drive over one that fast normally. What do you think that sound was, maybe rubbing? Or something else?
I took some pics of the springs installed and sitting on the ground. Does it look fine to you, or not? Anyone got any similar shots of there rear springs with car dropped? Like I said I will be doing the fronts tomorrow. I'll take some more pics when I'm done. I appreciate any feedback or advice.
I did the fronts yesterday. After reading about the drive shaft popping out I made sure to support the control arms when removing the struts.
Again, there was no left or right orientation on the springs, just front and back. So I installed with the Tein logos facing the right way up.
I read somewhere that you don't need to cut the bump stops on these springs for a GE. This is NOT true according to the manufacturer. They recommend cutting the front (bottom) section 1.4 inch or 35mm, so I did.
Took it for a test drive. The car does handle very differently now. A lot of the body roll has been reduced. The ride does feel a bit tougher over harsh bumps but I was expecting that.
I didn't take any before shots, buts definitely dropped the height by the stated 1.5 inch or so at all corners. The good this is this is all reversible if I get sick of it and want a stock ride,, but I'd probably have to buy some front bump stops which are dirt cheap.
I managed to do the fronts in about 3 hours taking my time. Decking be able to smash it out in about 2, now that I've done it. Having an impact wrench definitely made the job easier and quicker.
As promised here's some pics of the front springs installed and a couple of shot of the tyre gap and side shot. Cheers from down under
