PSA Check Your Rear Brake Drum Adjustment

New to me 09 Honda Fit w/ 90k on it. My OCD for new to me cars is to baseline everything to ensure I am providing my family with a good safe vehicle. I had noticed the brake pedal had a lot of wasted travel (first 2-3" the brake pedal traveled did nothing to engage the brakes). Fluid was nasty so we flushed and bled, lubed the caliper pins and checked the pad thickness. Did the e-brake while reversing method of adjustment, but that might have been a procedure that worked on older Honda's? idk All looked good, but still a soft pedal.

So this weekend when I was replacing the shocks/struts I checked the rear drum adjustment. Sure enough when spun by hand w/ the wheel on the wheel just keep spinning w/o any drag from the brake shoes! I removed the drums and sprayed everything down with brakclean, and then moved the adjuster to ensure it was not seized (gotta love cars w/o rust belt issues). All looked good, so I proceeded to adjust the brakes until the wheel would spin 1-1/2 -- 2 revolutions before stopping. That did the trick. Nice solid pedal with near instant engagement.

Also, I'm pretty sure the service access for the adjuster on the rear drums is in the wrong location, either that or you need some fancy offset adjustment tool for the drums.
