Question 205/45/16 on OE GE8 Wheels?

Anyone run this tire size?

According to the tire specs these are suggested for rim widths of 6.5", though the GE8 wheel is 6" wide.

I've done a bit of reading and found that car makers (like BMW) will sometimes decide to go outside of tire maker rim width recommendations, usually up to .5", and I recently I found at least one person claiming to run this size. Also, no doubt we've seen countless ricer pics of excessively wide/narrow combinations that don't cause tire failure.

Anyone actually running this size, and how do you like it?

Cheers!

I've got 205/45/16 Falken ZE-912's on my GE wheels (on my GD). They're a heck of a lot better than the stock 185/55/16 OEM Dunlops! Overall the car is way more stable. Taking an onramp turn at 40mph I used to feel traction loss in the Dunlops, now the car sticks to the ground and won't budge.

One of my primary concerns when choosing a tire size was sidewall bulge. I'd seen a picture of a 205/50/16 on the GE wheels and the sidewall looked super bulgy. But I think it might have been the specific type of tire that just happened to have a fatter side. Either way, it scared me enough to stay away from the 50 series and go with 45. The 45 has a little bulge on the Falkens, but overall it looks great. No problems fitting onto the 6" wheels.

Downside is that my mpg died due to the increase of rolling resistance (more rubber contact on the ground). I was getting about 27-29mpg mixed with the Dunlops, now I'm only averaging 26.5 mixed... 100% freeway I used to get 32-34mpg and now I only get 30-32. Only bothers me that I'm not able to boast about my small car getting great MPG numbers, but I'm also in an AT. I figure, safety and the ability to corner faster is worth the few mpg loss...

thanks! Any closer pics with this size on?

Now I just need to decide whether to sell my stockers or wear them out first... only 6k miles on my fit so far!

im using 205/45/16, tyre RE001.

i wouldnt recommend this size, it makes my 16" type f ssr looks like 15". yup i lowered my ride, still theres some space between the fender and tyre. but if i go lower i'll hit the bumper.

a better size would be 195/55/16. cosmetically better. better mpg.

195/55/16 can be use on stock rims. 205/55/16 im not so sure whether it can be use on stock rims.

why you want 205/45/16?

I don't care for the stock size and want to reduce the OD to effectively lower the gearing. I've done this on more cars than I can remember and always loved the end result. Better looks, better handling, more zip.

It's just a compromise that costs performance. Don't forget the 205/45 is generally a couple pounds lighter than the 50 series. You'll notice that the size people put on the Fit for track/autocross (205/50/15) is the same OD as the 205/45/16, within 2/10 of an inch anyway.

Peace-out

195/45/16 is rated for 6 inch width! win win.
