Plasti Dip

Thinking about blacking out my EX rims via plasti dip, the kit is pretty cheap via dipmycar . com. Anyone else thought about this?

I'm going for the all black look. Might do some chrome trim as well.

How durable is plasti-dip? I'd be worried that it would start peeling off, especially on a place like the wheels which get subjected to a lot of road salt. Otherwise, like you, I really like the look of blacked-out wheels.

I can't speak to the durability (since this is only a couple of weeks old), but this should give you an idea of how the blackout looks on the grille & tail. I didn't do the wheels - just the trim.

I didn't bother with the kit - just picked up a can at Lowe's, masked it off & hit it with a half-dozen coats.

I did it to a grill on a old car and after a year it still looked okay. The good news is if you mess up or it gets damaged you can just peel it off and start over. 5-6 light coats is definitely needed to make it look good

That looks solid! Black on Black will look so good on my Fit. I'll drop by lowes today and see what a can costs. Just one can did that?

It peels off, not sure how easliy but that's why you can do it without worrying to much. Just your time mostly is what will be lost if you need to start over. Just mask it up and go slow.

Paco, I have to admit, that looks pretty sweet! Did you go shiny in the front and matte in the back, or is it just the difference in lighting?

Bought 2 cans - 'cause that's what you do with spray paint - but didn't open the 2nd can. I strongly recommend a spray handle to help you get a more even coating.

I used matte front & rear, but did not spray the black gloss on the grille - just the Honda logo & "retainer" at the front.

My wife and I will be picking up our new manual EX Fit next week, and blacking out the braces is something I am looking forward to already.

FYI - I used plasti-dip on my trucks rims/running boards last spring. 14,000 miles later and they are still holding up well. $5.99 at Home Depot.

If you are doing rims, I highly suggest 4-8 coats to ensure they hold up. I did 5 and only found a single spot were I scraped through the dip with a stick while working in a field. (I doubt you will be using your Fit to drag trees, so you should be good)

Btw great cars, so excited to be on the forum and see what others are doing to them.

Looks like your chrome disease is still spreading, you might want to do something about that

I've plasti dipped the wheels, emblems and other bits on 5 or 6 cars now...I did my girlfriends and my brothers the same time around 3 years ago. It is still holding up! (Virginia and Philadelphia weather)

I've been wanting to do this on the stock alloys but, I've been waiting to see what it looked like on someone else's first haha.

My rear garnish now looks the same (black plastidip and red H emblem). Looks bad ass against the silver on mine. IDK why they ever did the chrome for that piece. It's hideous.

I replastidipped the front chrome red. It looks pretty nice with the red H right above it. Almost factory.

On the back, did you plasti dip over the black glossy part? It kinda looks like black glass? I'm just a little weary about plasti dipping over that.

I plastiDipped my front and rear Honda H logo a couple nights ago ...
used wide blue masking tape and newspapers to keep any overspray off everything outside the big H
(like the shiny black rear panel). Sorry for the night pictures ...
I liked the look so much I plastiDipped the center section of the lower grill yesterday.
Again, I used masking tape & newspapers to contain where it went.

I like the fact I can brush and peel it off if I tire of the look!

I know mine is a 2nd gen FIT - but PlastiDip is universal!

Sorry - 1st timer newbie at all of this - I don't have glossifier -
I read about folks doing Plastidip on all kinds of things
and I found this rattlecan of PlastiDip at Home Depot ...
did some masking and gave it a try!
