SpongeBob SquareCar has been tinted!

3M Ceramic. 35% front; 15% back. ( Texas allows 35% or lighter on sides, any on back half.) Night vision is fine. Glare reduced. Hubby said it seems cooler inside too. And it looks good, too. Will take day picture when I can. Busy week.

Wow! That looks nice! Did you put 15% on the sunroof as well?

Beautiful! I love the yellow, but I'm happy with the red, especially tinted.

Love the name; as mentioned before, ours is SpacePod Elroy.

Spacepod Elroy is very handsome! The Red is stunning. I also like the blue. But I don't want a black, grey, white or black car. Too easy to mistake for all the other similar hatchbacks at a distance. I did not tint the sunroof. It is usually too hot and sunny to use it much, and it has a cover on the inside so it doesn't let in much heat unless open. And I want to be able to see thunderstorms, hawks and rainbows through it.

Where have you seen that Texas allows 35% on the front windows?

This thread states it is only 25% with a 5% tolerance.

TX tint law Change - Tint Laws - TintDude Forum

The law states 25% on the front two windows with a tolerance of 5%
Also a post in that thread states that inspectors are rejecting cars that have more than 24.9% (as in no tolerance).

here in Rusk County Texas the DPS and inspection are under the impression that its 25% WITH NO TOLERANCE. Which i know can't be right. The inspection stations are kickin them back at 24.9%
EDIT: The Texas DPS clearly states that any tinting on the front windows of more than 25% will fail inspection:

Speaking of tint, what happens when I drive my Florida legal car to another state where I presume they allow less tint? Does my registration trump state law?

I am somewhat confused on tinting.

Does 35% film mean that only 35% of the light gets through or that 35% of the light is diminished (65% gets through)?

If it is the first then the Texas requirement of 25% means that 35% is well in the safe range.

I thought that too based on what I've read here. Seems 15% is more tint than 35%.

mm 35 allows more light than 25. That's why the 15 is darker than the 35. Lighter is higher number. Darker is lower. 90% is near clear, 5% is limo tint and almost black. The 35 plus the manufacturer tint is 25%.

When we had my daughters car tinted, we received an invoice that also included a notice stating our tint met current Tennessee law.....They told us to carry the statement in the car, should we ever be stopped. I suspect the laws of the governing state would prevail (where your car is registered), but I could be wrong. I seem to get in trouble when I assume anything!

Our tint is 55% all around (excluding the sunroof and front sun strip, which are both 18%). With the tint being so light, I doubt we would be stopped anywhere in the country for a tint violation. My daughter just wanted the benefit of heat and cancer causing rays being blocked. She did not want a dark tint job.

I don't see well in Texas glare. Also want some privacy on the occasions I sleep in the car. Not planning on moving outside of Texas, so long as I don't try to plate it in NY or CA or somewhere else restrictive, I'm ok. Some places have much tighter laws. I think the silly SpongeBob stickers will reassure cops in other states that I'm basically harmless.

Just got done washing and claying. Now for stickers and sealant and I'm done for a while.
