engine tick on cold engine
engine tick on cold engine
what you guys think of this noise, it isnt there first thing but comes in after a mile or so and then goes away when engine gets warmer
it appears to be comming from the number one cylinder exhaust valve cam lobe at the rear of the engine
it is strange to need a valve adjustment on a new car with 6000 miles on it
thanks in advance

thanks for your reply
the car is one year old with 5500 miles on and just had its first service last month, i dont remember hearing the noise before the service but then the weather was warmer then too, serviced at main honda dealer with 0 20 mobil one fully synth
the noise is not there at first startup but comes in after a couple of mins and then goes away again after 5 mins or so, you only can hear it from outside so if you drive it more than 2 miles you would never hear it
i think one of the exhaust valves has slightly too much gap than the others from the factory or something like that, but if that was the case wouldnt it start tapping from startup

@monkeydave:
1) You should not need a valve adjustment at 5,500 mi. (But you know that.)
2) It's possible that, when the engine is cold, the oil is thicker and it muffles that noise. On the other hand, if the oil is cold, it's not circulating and lubricating optimally, and metal sounds should therefore be louder.
3) I never heard a Fit engine that didn't sound too noisy — like a diesel engine, almost. Other cars on the road also seem to louder than ever. It bugs me.
Sorry I couldn't be of any help here, Dave. Good luck.

Sounds like normal cold engine valve clatter. Why it's not there when you first start the engine I don't know. I make it a point not to listen to engine noises as much as possible because you'll just drive yourself crazy trying to figure them out.
no one has messed with this car since factory, just had its first oil change at one year old but the weather is cold at the moment, thats probably why i didnt notice it in the warmer weather and it does go away after a few mins to sound perfect so like you say who knows, you are right about drivng yourself crazy listening to engine noises though lol
they will probably tell me what you told me lol
cheers
