From the looks of the fluid that comes out of mine, I agree it is a good idea to keep it changed. It doesn't look burned or smell bad or anything, but you can tell it is doing some work and it gets "used". Hope that makes some sense.

About 103k for me, so far not a single issue. Shifts well and where expected, no slipping, etc.

We only daily so I do the fluid change at a higher interval than the book says. (40k vs recommended 30k I believe. Fluid has been VERY clean each time.) Using the Honda fluid for reference, this is the one thing I don't mind using the strict out of the book recommendation since we don't have to do it that often.

How'd you go about swapping out the fluids? A simple drain and fill or completely flush the trans? If so, did you power flush using a machine or just unplug the cooler hose?

i went for the 6 speed for my '19 Fit as the CVT was kind of noisy and i didn't think it could last as long . i drove in an HR-V , same racket under acceleration . probably a sound
deadening issue in a cheap car . fast forward to last month , was looking up parts for my brother's '15 CR-V ( bought used with low miles last year ) and found out the car is a CVT . we thought
all along it was an automatic , it's that good . so yea , i guess Honda knows how to build a good CVT . as far as longevity is concerned , all the guys who've got 100k on their CVTs ,
report back in another 100k . my two previous Honda manuals went way past that .

I'm new to Fits (about to pick up a 19 sport on Friday) but my current 2010 Insight is the first "automatic" car I've ever owned (I'm 43). I don't like the CVT in it, but the car has just shy of 250k on the original trans and runs more or less the same as it always has in terms of shifting. Fluid changed with Honda brand fluid but only when the built-in maintenance minder asks for it, which seems like maybe 40k? The Insight has rusted out so badly that it's hard to jack it up to change a tire and it's failing inspection for it, so it has to go. I'd rather drive a manual but the reality of my car owning is a lot of crappy traffic so I'm settling for another CVT in the Fit.

The CVT on my Fit and HR-V have been good so far. Changed the Fit CVT fluid at 15k and the fluid was in moderate condition. Changed the HR-V at 30k at was also in moderate condition.

As far as I can tell the CVT doesn't like when you are coasting without throttle input. You want to either be on the gas a bit or on the brake a bit to reduce the strain on the CVT belt.

I'm not a huge fan of the slight jerky motions when I let off the throttle and coast around a turn. Otherwise I quite enjoy it.

Keep driving it let me know when it blows up!

185,000 miles currently on CVT

No problems with CVT. Change fluid every 30,000 miles. I am an older, right lane on cruise control.

Uhm. Well, there was that ONE time at 100mph @ approximately 3000rpm (169,000 miles).

Keep up with fluid changes, it should last the life of the car.

2017 LX CVT fluid changed twice, 136K miles. No problem. Mostly highway driving. Rarely floored the engine for quick acceleration.

Mostly Highway before I bought it at 108k
Fluid Changed at 108K, 158K, 198K
All suggested by maintenance minder.

Currently at 215K still acting normal.

My blew at 108k mi with no warnings or diagnostics before or after, just a car that would no longer move. We performed all transmission maintenance on schedule.

Cvt/differential whine

I have a 2017 cvt Lx bought new 41k miles no issues.
I just bought a cpo 2020 Lx cvt with 7k miles. After driving it a few weeks I notice a whining noise between 30-40 mph (peak 35mph) made worse with part throttle going slight uphill. Mid to higher pitched noise, not a rumble or low frequency.

Similar sound to some of my rear drive
rear diff whining mopar vehicles from the 70’s.

Otherwise the cvt performs without noise or issue on acceleration. Shifting to S mode doesn’t change the noise and the noise isn’t present below 30mph, goes away above 40mph.

The car was previously owned by an 87 yo who mostly drove around a small city probably at 35 mph.

Any ideas as to pinpointing the cause ??

I’ve changed the cvt fluid on the 2017.

I may take out the fill plug and add fluid to see if it’s low.

A 2020 Fit should still be under 5 year engine/transmission warranty. I would take it in and have them look at it even if it costs you the diagnosis fee.

Some cvts are noisier than others is what a Honda Mechanic told me. As long as the service intervals are met, that is all that matters in most cases. My cvt is fine with over 107,000 miles on it and the only time it makes noise(periodically)is when I'm using the paddle shifters. It's more of like a sound of when you let air out of a balloon, but other than that, it drives perfectly fine. Now if you drain the cvt fluid and you start pulling out huge chunks of metal with the drain plug, then you got a problem.

It is a cpo car so the power train warranty is good for 7/100000 miles or August of 2027. So it may of may not get worse. I’m just curious what it may be. Just wondering if others have heard same noise circumstance. Thanks

Just a fancy way of describing a used car so that you can charge more for it.
