Sunroof operation

Hello,
I notice on hot days the sun roof cover (interior sliding part of head liner) is considerably hotter than other parts of the head liner. I was thinking of putting a piece of reflective material on the opposite side of the sliding cover but can’t figure out how I can have sunroof open and slide the cover closed so I can access it. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this?
thanks

There's not supposed to be a way. It's designed so when you open the sunroof, the cover opens too.

If you were to attempt just sliding the cover closed, I feel like it may break something.

The best course of action would probably be trying to remove either the headboard, or the sunroof assembly

My $.02

Maybe I misunderstood your response, but I almost never open the glass sunroof to the outside air, but always slide the inside cover back and forth to let the light in or keep it out. The internal cover moves easily.

Having said that I assume one may be able to open the glass, close the cover, and put something reflective on it. I've never done it in that order.

It's not designed to be able to do that. There is a "catch" from the cover, to the glass.

So if you have the cover closed, and the glass closed, and you slide the glass open, the cover opens along with it. At that point, you cannot close the cover with the glass open. I hope this explains it a bit better

I've looked into trying to do what you are trying, with putting something reflective on the top of the cover. It won't be easy.

Ah, now I understand.

Yes, I know there is a catch but thought maybe there was a way to bypass it. I think the only way to have enough access to properly mount a reflective piece would be to remove sunroof glass which I think is just 2 screws on each side. I think I could also just cut a piece to size and slide it in and remove before driving. Not sure if I want to tackle a project that may or may not be worth it.

The only way to do it is to remove the headliner. Either from the front which requires total removal of the grab handles and the sun visors. The visors are tricky b/c if the plastic catch starts to wear out quick, you might have a hard time removing it. The other method is to remove the headliner from the rear. You'll need to remove the rear grab handles, some of the rear trunk plastic, the plastic between the front and rear doors. When the headliner is pulled down, the privacy cover slides rearwards and can be removed by pushing down on the rubber stops in the guide.

If you have a set of torx bits you can simply slide back the cover while the sunroof is closed, take out the 4 retaining screws, remove the sunroof, slide the cover shut and apply the reflective material from outside the car on to the topside of the cover. then reverse the removal steps. way easier than removing the headliner

This is what I was thinking. So those 4 torx head screws are the only thing holding it in place? Are they a fixed holding or do I need to adjust the sunroof when replacing? I may search for a how to video.
thanks,
D

Yep its just those 4 screws. its not fixed so you will have to do some adjustment when re-installing. if possible mark the positions with a bright marker or equivalent to make re installation quicker. there should be some videos. the process is the same on most Hondas around that year

Thanks,
Not sure if I will get inspired to go through with it for a few degrees but it sure seems like cars should come with it already there.
