Key Fob, Start/Stop button, and what is this wire??

I hope someone can help me here, because I'm freaking out a little. I own a 2015 Fit EX-L btw

I noticed the other day that the "smart entry" warning light had come on. I tried using a different fob and replacing the fob batteries. After unhooking the battery, the light went away but came back.

After looking around the web, many folks were saying at some point, their cars ceased to start after ignoring the light for too long. So I started looking at diy solutions. Since the majority of folks who brought their Fit to the dealership said the issue was the start/stop button (costing them $500 to replace) I began looking into how to change it myself.

One youtube video described how to get to it, remove the button and clean some contacts, then replace it which (according to the many comments) seemed to fix the smart entry light issue for many. In my case, however, the issue just got worse. As soon as I plugged the button back in, it started blinking green and beeping..when I tried to start the car, nothing happened. Fortunately, I remembered you can hold the fob *up* to the button if the battery is dead/signal is lost. It does seem that I have to push one of the lock/unlock buttons on the fob while using it to push the start button to get it to "come alive"/register

I'm about to start a new job tomorrow that will require me to have a working car. So I'm hoping it will keep starting or that the new button I ordered will work. So, I have a few questions:

1. Should I worry about my car not starting one day?
2. If the button is the issue, would a replacement "work" or do they need to be programmed/installed by the dealership to function properly?
3. Lastly, wtf is this wire?? I never unhooked it, intentionally. Now I'm wondering if it came off accidentally and is the cause for my fob not communicating...or if it's there for some option my card doesn't have installed (like gps)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Nevermind... I'm an idiot. You can even see *where* that wire connects to, in one of the pictures. It clips into the back of the panel that houses the USB/HDMI, near the top, parallel to the face. And whatever it was disconnected from was apparently what was causing the issue. That must be where the transmitter for the fob lives. When I opened the panel, and reconnected that wire, everything suddenly worked perfectly! AND the smart entry light no longer comes on. So, I guess taking the stop/start button out, cleaning the little contacts, and replacing.it worked. Although, it didn't really seem like the thing needed cleaning. So, I'm not 100% sure what the issue was. But my car works fine. 🤷‍♂️

Up until the 1990s or so, most cars used keyed ignition locks, where the physical match of the key and the lock allowed the car to be started. If the key matched the lock, the key could turn and activate the ignition and start switches.

If the key matched the lock, the key could turn and activate the ignition and start switches. To make this more secure, car manufacturers started trying other stuff like putting in magnets or resistors or other weird stuff to the key that the vehicle had to detect to allow the car to start Showbox jiofi.local.html tplinklogin.

You don't have to fix this yourself--warranty has been extended

I just wanted to thank you for this post! I installed a shift boot collar today and when I was done the keyless start wasn't working. I tried jumping the car, replacing the fob battery, and was about to go to the dealership but I figured I would take a night and dig through the forum. Luckily I found this post and it solved my issue so thank you!

List of symptoms:

- Keyless start system error light
- Only way to start the car was holding the fob against the start button
- Car would lock and unlock with the fob but not start
