Cruise control and throttle response

Sorry this is a little long...

2015 Honda Fit EX with 99,600 miles on it.

Last December I started up my car in the morning and drove off. I always use my cruise control and as soon as I got up to speed I tried to engage it. Nothing. So I put up with it. However, on my drive to work, which is 70 mph interstate where cruise control is best, I noticed that even when I was coasting downhill and the MPG was way up at 90 that green light that indicates good MPG was not green. It was solid blue for the whole drive. I then realized that the throttle response was off too. This happened again on my way home after my car had been sitting in a parking lot all day. The next morning when I started up the car and drove again I noticed the cruise control was not working. So I pulled over, yelled some, shut off the car, waited ~10 seconds, started up the car again and...cruise control and throttle response was completely normal.

This went on for a few days. Whenever the car had sat for 2+ hours the cruise control would not work and the throttle response was off. But the problem went away if I stopped the car, waited for ~10 seconds, and started it back up. Then it just stopped having this problem. For weeks things were good. Then it happened again a couple of times here and there. So I got into the habit of always starting it up, driving for a block, trying cruise control, and if it didn't work then shutting it down and restarting (always worked fine when I did this).

Then one day (might have been in May) when the cruise control failed to work again I shut if off and I did not wait very long. Maybe 2-3 seconds. When I hit the start button I had 4 warning lights on (including the check engine light) but the car ran fine. I scheduled and appointment with my mechanic. But by the time I brought it to him all the lights went off. He checked the computer and didn't see anything. Weeks later the 4 lights came on again (I might have restarted too quickly again) and the lights were on when I brought it to my mechanic. He said the computer code was P0341 but the code went away when the oil was changed (it was due and one of his guys started that before we decided what to do about the P0341). So we agreed that I would bring the car in when the car said the oil was 50% instead of the 15% it was when I brought it in.

Last month I had a bad wheel bearing and scheduled it to be fixed. I had no warning lights on my car for months and it drove fine. The day I brought it in to the mechanic the 4 warning lights went on. The oil was only after 60% and it had only been ~3 months since the last oil change. He fixed the wheel bearing and cleared the computer. The lights went away. They were gone for a couple of weeks and then....

The cruise control stopped working at start up again (throttle response was off again too) and, again, I stopped and restarted too quickly and the lights all came on again. I brought the car in and the P0341 code was showing again. According to the computer the most likely problem was some valve (sorry, I cannot remember the name) and he replaced that value last Wednesday and the warning lights went out. On Thursday morning he took it for a test drive a he said it seemed fine. When I picked it up Thursday night when I started it up in his parking lot the lights were all on again. Since I hadn't left yet he came out and plugged it into the computer again and....P0341. He called a friend who is a mechanic at a Honda dealership who said that valve was the most likely problem followed by the timing something or other needing to be replaced. Well...that is a $1200 fix and I've been looking to replace the Fit anyways so I said no to the repair. I'd drive it until it died or I replaced it. Whichever came first.

Friday, the day after I picked it up from the mechanic I started it up and the warning lights were all off again but the cruise control didn't work again so I stopped the car and restarted (giving enough time this time). But now...new warning light.: Smart Entry System light. Thankfully this forum is loaded with helpful into and I saw that there was a specific warranty extension for the start/stop button. So when I started the car to bring it to a dealership yesterday I stupidly stopped and restarted too quickly again the 4 warning lights + the Smart Entry System light. Anyways...Honda fixed the start/stop button yesterday. They said everything else looked good. When I got in the car all warning lights were off and when I drove home the cruise control worked fine (though the car had not sit without running much in the 2-3 hours it was at Honda.

I was kind of hoping that start/stop button problem was causing some electrical problem that was causing the cruise control and throttle response issues upon starting. Alas, when I started it up this morning the cruise control wasn't working. Stopping, waiting ~10 seconds and restarting got it working again. I'll try to avoid restarting too quickly going forward but.... Has anyone seen any problem like this before?

I've driven on cruise thousands of km's cross country and never had any issues with cruise like how you've described. Sometimes if there is a hill and/or headwind, the revs will suddenly go high (I did expect this with CVT. Can't remember if this is written in the manual). I don't have the push button start. Hope you figure out what's going on.

2015 Fit EX, 153,000ish miles.

I have similar issues.

1) I've been slow on getting my oil changes so the last two oil changes the mechanic has told me the dipstick has been dry. The first time I thought it was because I did it myself and screwed up but now I'm pretty sure it is burning oil. They say there is no indication of leakage, it is clean down there. After reading some forum posts I am also considering running thicker oil and getting it changed more often.

2) I have had the VTC type rattle for many years. I have no addressed it yet and now I am out of warranty. I am an hour+ from a dealership so I've not been up to date on recalls or extended warranties. I will try to take it to the dealership and see what they say.

3) Related to your issues, my cruise control has started to go out and similar issues with MPG and Throttle Response. Near the end of the oil change those four warning lights came on. It did this before so I wasn't too worried about it. It cleared up after replacing the oil last time. It did not affect my cruise control before. This time the CEL, traction, tire and power steering lights have cleared up after using some fuel injection cleaner but similar to you the security fob light is on and no cruise control. This light has been on and off the last year or so without any noticeable side effects.

4) Your cruise control trick of stopping the car, waiting 10 seconds, and going again does not seem to work for me. I need to test it some more because I swear it worked a couple days ago but I have not been able to get it to work since.

5) My impression from reading the forum is that this is a roundabout error from the fuel injection and VTC issues. My mechanic also reported some code about timing being off as is the case in other posts I have read. He's not really a Honda guy though and doesn't do that kind of work so I need to take it to the dealer to get more information.

6) I too am in the position where I'd rather buy a new car than throw a couple thousand into the fit so I will drive it until it dies. Has anyone else have experience with just not fixing it and it actually dying? I can deal with 10-20% loss of MPG if it will still just go another 150k. I miss cruise control though.

I'm busy right now but wanted to get my thoughts out while I remembered, I'll try to post a more detailed post later. I did want to let you know that there are people with similar issues though. How is your car now?
