Magic seats not as flat when folded as in Gen 1?

Hello All
I just traded my 2008 Fit Sport in on a 2020 Fit LX. During the 12+ years I owned the '08, the rear seats were almost always folded down flat. The seats in the new car don't seem to fold as flat. Am I missing a key step when folding them (first fold the bottoms up, flip the base tubing up, drop the bottoms, then fold the backs down)?
Thank you

Also open to any advice about maintaining the new car, which has the CVT transmission instead of the 5 speed (and is therefore a lot quieter at 70 mph on the highway).

2015 here. Just put the seats down and they are completely flat, none of the rest. Magic seats up just as simple, pull them up.
If you have an accessory cargo tray, it will get in the way of total flatness .
It's been a long arduous day. Forgive the grammar.

You are not supposed to fold seatbase up and flipping the tubing before folding the seatbacks down. I assume the base tubing is not setting correctly when it is not in it's floor catch when folding seatbacks down, and that will prevent getting it all down to be flat.

as others have said, don't fold the bottoms up. leave them in place, then fold the tops down. Also, if you haven't, be sure the head rests are completely down

You don't flip the seats up first. You just fold the rear seat top down flat.

Folding the rear seats up is for more frontal space. That is all.

Thank you all!
Now that I am doing this properly, it still seems to me that the '08 Fit seats folded flatter. There wasn't a pair of flaps to cover the gap between the cargo space floor and the back of the rear seats. It's all good, there still seems to be a lot of volume back there. I love the Fit because I take the front wheels of the bicycles I am transporting, and I can put the bikes in vertically rather than have to lay them down on their side.

I agree with you. The seats in my second generation Fit folded completely, leaving a flat floor. the seats in my '15 fold leaving a slight "step", even when folded properly.
