How to disassemble front headrest

I would like to get my 2019 GK5 front seat headrest disassembled to see the tilt adjustment mechanism and to make some modifications to improve the driving position. But I have not even figured out how to remove the hard plastic cover under the headrest. Has anybody done that or found some instructions how to do it?

Nowadays I have the headrest turned backwards to get my head in natural relaxed position and not being pushed forwards, but that probably is not very safe in case of an accident.

Actually I would like to have 1st gen CR-V headrests, but the spacing and diameter of the mounting rods is different. And I'm not sure if annual inspection would point out that 90's headrests are not fulfilling 2020's legislation.

Headrests from a 1st gen CRV will NOT interchange. Nor is there a real reason to change them out.

1st gen CRV headrests are comfortable, unlike GK Jazz/Fit headrests, but fitting them would require some rebuilding. That's why I'd like to disassemble the headrests to improve the adjustability.

Ya can love them all you want. But that just isn't going to work.

For the record, they're " head restraints," not headrests......a safety feature, not a comfort feature

Bingo! Do NOT mess with something like this. You may inadvertently cause your re-designed head restraints to be dangerous. Not worth it.

I hear what you are saying. For me it's a mechanical sturcture designed and manufactured by humans, and can be modified by another human. I'm sorry, but I'm allergic to mystifying things that are essentially mechanical engineering.

Maybe I need to buy one headrest from salvage yard and cut it open to see how to open it neatly.

You do you boo and taking a look inside may very well be a fun and worth while adventure into mechanical science. I would say that car companies have invested a lot of time, money and thought into safety features to keep people safe with the end goal being not to be sued. If you think that through to it's conclusion, you should see that modifying it is not a great choice.

I don't know you and maybe you have an engineering degree. Maybe you can run tests and do calculations on the mods that you do but break your neck in a crash and see what good that does.

I hope that you are never in a position to learn if my thoughts are good or bad. I hope that you never wreck your Fit/Jazz. Be safe and think safety on this matter.

I appreciate your concerns and warnings about the risks. However I'd suggest a reality check or comparison to other solutions. In this forum there are several advices to turn the heaadrest backwards. If you have a look at how the adjustment works, that makes it totally useless in case of rear-end collision. Much more dangerous. Other alternative for me is to use an 80's car with very comfortable seats. That's for sure much less safe in any way. Also using the Fit/Jazz headrest as is makes me severe headache, which distracts the attention from the driving. Also less safe solution.

And all this is off-topic, if you look at the original posting and my question there.

True, but most seats from 80's cars would probably need to be re-upholstered/rebuilt by this point.
Once you factor that into the cost, you'd be better off getting a NEW set of reclining seats with heaters/lumbar from Recaro/Bride/Crobeau etc.
Trust me, I've compared the costs.
