2016 CVT fluid change...reset the Maintenance Reminder?
2016 CVT fluid change...reset the Maintenance Reminder?
My older Daughter's car. She's working overseas for a couple of years (halfway through a 2 year contract) so we use it rarely to keep it running.
I've changed the oil a couple of times (usually when the oil life shows 30% or less left) since she got it (CPO with about 35k miles) about 3 years back.
Almost all highway miles since we got it...up to about 74k miles now.
Not used to the CVT, I noticed a much more frequent fill time than I'm used to with manual or standart auto transmissions during a search these forums. Forums like this have helped a LOT with other brands of cars, and this one has quite good information.
Noticed the CVT fluid should be changed at about 30k mile intervals.
We've never seen the maintenance reminder for the CVT fluid pop up. Last oil change was maybe 400 miles ago max. Reset the oil ife each time.
To do the CVT fluid:
Pull the fill plug, sight plug and then the drain plug (know to always pull the fill plug first). Drain. New crush washer/check magnet, then tighten the drain plug again (34 ft/lbs). Fill until it comes out the sight plug. I assume the fill plug (rubber, up under the air box?) pulls directly out? 4qts Honda Fluid on hand.
Once it's done, cycle through the gears, check the fluid level, add as needed, put the plugs back in.
Is there a way to reset the CVT fluid life like there is for the oil life?
Thanks!

No, there isn't. I can't remember the last time I actually followed the minder protocol for anything other than oil changes. I do the maintenance and then just jot down the date, mileage and what was done in the booklet so I can keep a record.
Same method I used for my '15.

Incidentally I would agree with a 30 - 40K transmission fluid change.
