Hey everyone. We have a 2019 honda fit and a few weeks ago, when getting ready to begin driving again. We attempted to turn the temp control dial to hot. The dial got stuck and then my friend heard a noise. The AC works great. 😂 but when you turn it towards heat, it won’t blow hot air.
I’m curious does anyone know how to get behind to see if something disconnected. It’s been fixed before. But with the winter storm heading in.. hoping I can do it myself!
I have a GE8 so can't give direct advice, but at least in the previous generation you could open the glove box and then press in the sides to release the rubber stoppers to open it further, allowing access to some of the HVAC controls.

Hopefully someone with a GK will help you out.
GK's are the same. Once you drop the glove box, you can clearly see the rotating parts and associated cables.
I'd also suggest dropping the glove box and making sure the parts are all connected (which it sounds like it isn't anymore).

so when it happened last time the guy at Honda said that it disconnected. So I’m thinking that’s what happened. I just wasn’t sure if it was the same to getting into it. But thank you! I will definitely try that!

I wonder if you are low on water. The water travels to the heater core. Sounds like you said it blows cold air so the fan works. Hopefully the glove boxw trick does it. A sticky valve. Check your water level so you dont overheat your engine

I will definitely do that! It luckily was the wire that got disconnected! But I will def check to be sure. Better to check then have a big issue later lol
I really hate the be the bearer of bad news for you Dez, but the same thing happened to my 2019 Fit last month. The temperature mix door on my AC/heater was internally broken. The dealership and a the second-opinion shop I eventually went with for the work said the cables operated as it should, but the controls on the inside were locked up, and they were unable to break them free. They needed the car for two days (the dealership has said it would need three) so they could remove the dash, replace a $400-something part, and put it all back together. Final cost: $2,400 out the door.
When I got the first estimate from the dealership, I at first resigned myself to just living with it, but I quickly realized that in cold weather no heat (and no defrost) is a safety hazard.
Once again, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Please don't kill the messenger.

I wonder if there's a way to prevent this failure?
My FIT is out of warranty later in 2023, and I certainly wouldn't want to be on the hook when it fails.
I SUGGEST EVERYONE FILE A RECALL.GOV COMPLAINT ON THIS SO THAT HONDA TAKES ACTION
My 2019 Fit with 82K miles also suddenly was without much heat. It turned out to be that the HVAC air temperature dial and cable are no longer able to operate the air box shutter / flapper through the full all cold to all hot air stroke length. Given the costly repair or large amount of time to replace the 79106-T5R-A01 air box (AC & Heater Case) and potentially the temperature controls (dash control unit 79560-T5R-A01ZA) for ~$400 and shipping - I've come up with a simple solution for the North - adjust the shutter/flapper fully forward toward engine for Winter (at/below 5 °C) and adjust the flapper all the way back (full cold) in late Spring. It's hard to stomach spending $2400 on an LX I bought for $17000 out the door (plain LX no options). I might put in a coat hanger-style push pull or 10-speed cable style control in that I can hide for more adjustment without removing the glove box.
In the attached picture the blue cable adjusts the air box flapper. That flapper has to be manually pushed forward toward the engine for full heat. The controls picture shows that your vertical rotation of the temperature dial results in a horizontal rotation of the cable in the cable reel.
Now that I've opened the heat fully - I've never had such great heat so soon. I believe that my car always had an issue with the flapper not being able to move to full heat: (1) the know was always very hard to turn past 1/2 cold since I bought the car new and (2) on full heat the car would take 10 miles to start getting nice hot heat driving at 60 mph on the highway (outdoor temps < 7 °C). Now hot air is available within a 1-2 mile drive.
It also appears that the GK Fit / Jazz / City (2015-2020) worldwide has this problem judging on WWW searches.
When I still had my 2015 Fit EX-L mine was stuck in partially closed position for the heat so my A/C would not get as cold as it should. Went to dealer 3 times with the problem repeating soon after each visit. I was tired of this nonsense. Traded the car in and now have a 2018 Honda Accord that has heat and A/C working as designed. I liked the Fit but could not deal with this problem over and over.
I know it's many years after this thread was started but I have this problem. A few months ago there was a cold day here in south Florida. I turned the heat-cool knob of my Honda EX 2019 to heat and am not sure if I heard a click but ever since then, the knob does not turn all the way to warm or all the way to cool. The AC cools the car fine.
I thought the knob was broken.
The repair shop today said "a 2-day repair and $2200 to fix the broken HEATER UNIT ASSEMBLY. Honda fit 2019.
Is there anything new information about this? Any other troubleshooting I can do? Does it pay to get another opinion from another shop?
The shop suggested I could live with it as is, since the AC works, but I doubt if choose that
I had a similar problem on my Fit 2018 — it was the control cable behind the panel that had come loose. You can access by removing the clips around the center console, it's a bit of a hassle but doable. If you hear a click or it's spinning in a vacuum, that's probably it. Good luck before the storm!
