Driver's door lock / Smart Entry problem

Hi all,

I'm having an issue where the driver's door lock is being very flaky to lock and unlock from the driver's side smart entry handle. I have no aftermarket alarm system installed, everything is factory stock on my 2017 Honda Fit EX-L. The symptoms are:
  • Exiting the vehicle, if I press the button on the driver's door handle to lock the doors, it often won't do anything. When it does work, I hear a beep and hear the door locks actuate. If it doesn't work, I have to re-open the drivers door, manually flip the lock lever by the door handle which causes the locks to lock, and close the door. Pressing the button on the door handle then results in a beep, which I assume means its arming the factory alarm. So the lock button still works to set the alarm 100% of the time, but it frequently won't cause the door locks to actually cycle.
  • Entering the vehicle, if I place my fingers within the driver's door handle to unlock the door, I always hear a beep, but the door lock frequently doesn't cycle open, and the driver's door won't open. When it does work, I hear the beep, the lock cycles, and I can open the door. When it isn't working, I can try this a few times, and hear a beep each time I put my fingers into the handle, but the locks don't unlock. I then walk over to the passenger door, place my fingers within the door handle, and the other locks open each time (except the driver's door). I then have to reach across the car to pull the driver's door handle to open the driver's door. Sometimes opening the rear hatch or the passenger door will cause the driver's door lock to unlock too, but not always.
Has anyone experienced this? I took the car to the dealer several months ago when this was happening less frequently, and the rear passenger door lock was also failing to unlock and lock sometimes when using central locking. They repaired the rear door lock, but couldn't reproduce the issue on the driver's door, and told me to wait until it was happening very often so they wouldn't throw expensive parts at an intermittent problem to fix it. I'm a little reluctant to reschedule and take the car back in just yet because while it's happening frequently, it's not 100% of the time. Maybe 50-70% of the time it fails to unlock or lock from the driver's door handle, but sometimes it works fine a few times in a row. I don't have much faith that the dealer will try a number of times to reproduce the problem.

From the symptoms above, I'm 90% sure the smart entry system is fine, it's the driver's door lock actuator which is flaky / starting to fail or possibly due to a loose connection. The mechanical linkage is fine, since pulling the door handle unlocks the door, as does flipping the door lock lever.

Edit: One other oddity I've noticed related to the door locks that started recently is that sometimes when driving the door locks will lock again. I'm using to having this happen automatically when you hit a certain speed, but this may occur 15-20 minutes into a drive somewhat randomly.

It might be that the remote is the culprit. I'd check its battery first. Long shot, I know.

Thanks for the reply. This happens with both remotes and only with the drivers door. The passenger and hatch work fine. So it’s not the remote. I’m going to take it in next week to have the service department take another look at the door lock.

I don’t have this issue. Maybe it’s the wiring for the actuators? Try replacing the fuse or checking for damaged wires
