2015 Honda Fit Ex Just Purchased

Hi Folks,
I just traded in my 2011 Toyota Prius for a 2015 Honda Fit Ex. It has 68k miles on it and is in really nice shape. As a side note, I am now retired, and if i put 3k miles in a year on a car, that would be a lot. Anyway, the used sales lot did a 63 point inspection and replaced the oil, tires and did an alignment. I was wondering what other maintenance I should do. I tried looking at the past records, but it seems they rarely used Honda dealership, so I can't really find many past records of maintenance. Should I have the transmission oil changed? According to the maintenance records I found Honda recommends at 60k? I asked a local shop if they could do it, and they asked if it was a CVT Transmission. I replied yes. They said they won't touch it. I asked why and they said too many things could go wrong. Any advice on what to do?

Thanks!

If they haven't been changed since the car was built, change the CVT fluid, change the radiator fluid, change the brake fluid. I changed my own CVT fluid last summer and it was relatively easy but time consuming. I would recommend going to Honda for the CVT to make sure the right fluid is used.

Thank you for the reply. Do these fees sound reasonable:

1) CVT Transmission Fluid would be approx $140 + tax
2) Brake Fluid Change would be $139.95 + tax
3) Coolant Service would be approx $110 - $120 (+tax) depending on coolant capacity.

Thanks!!

Last summer my CVT fluid was C$124 (about US$90) for 4 liters (which is about 4 US quarts.). The fill is actually only about 3 1/2 quarts. Anyway your $140 is kinda high unless they're selling you more than 4 quarts.

Brake fluid can't remember what I paid at Honda but that looks reasonable. Mostly labor cost.

Coolant. Mine was done under warranty because of a leak so it didn't cost me anything. (The coolant leak was actually my fault and I should have paid but I didn't figure that out until later)

68k miles? I recall my front brake pads needing replacement around 75k miles, so also check that if it hasn't been replaced before.

at 68k miles yes cvt oil, then every 30k after that. Brake fluid every 3years. Honda type2 coolant is every 5years/60,000miles...but there is other more modern coolant that can last longer 10years/150k miles, just make sure all the old is flushed out first before changing coolant type but always stick to Ethylene Glycol type. I just recently flushed out my 2015 w/87k miles, first time ever and it wasn't so bad, changed to a longer life coolant but flushed out the old first. Look up my username on youtube and playlist for the FIT. As for the brakes, just shine a flashlight on the pad to see how thick they are, if down to 5mm they'll need changing soon, the inside will wear out faster than outside by a few mm
