Welcome. In a pinch, I'd disconnect the negative battery terminal temporarily to kill the engine. Then you can decide on options like towing or possibly roadside service if you need a jump to get it started again.

Been reading up and seems most likely a bad ignition switch. I’ve ordered a new one from Amazon that arrives by 8am tomorrow.

gonna just let it idle while at work. It’s locked up and parked near the door where I can see it.

Don’t wanna chance it not starting and leaving me stranded here.

OK, but a heads up. You can burn a hole through your catalytic converter if you let the engine run too long without moving the vehicle.

i think someone has been pulling your leg. That’s simply not true.

Excessive idling drops an enormous amount of heat into the cat that is not dissipated because the car isn't moving.

High temps can cause the catalyst to melt or lose its surface area. When that happens, you get a hole.

But don't take my word for it. You seem disinclined to accept anything I've said so far. Why start now?

Um no, that is not even close to true. Who told you that nonsense? lol

That is probably the dumbest thing I have read all week.

Once again. Not true at all. You are not melting holes in metal that are meant to take the heat. Especially when these car don't buildup heat to start with. Holes don't just melt in your exhaust from idling. Even posting that here is just stupid. smh

idling is when everything runs the coldest, the higher the RPM the hotter...if anything too long cold running clogs up the cat

Well, your first bit of advice was to turn off the engine (by disconnecting the battery - which would not turn off the car btw) and tow it home or call roadside if I needed a jump when I specifically said I didn’t want to be stranded.. then you came up with complete nonsense about melting the catalytic converter.
That’s kinda 3 strikes…
