Weird Rattling Noise when I'm stopped (Honda Fit 2015 EX)
Hello Everyone,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Planning on being a long time contributor if I'm going to seek and expect help. I've really been getting into doing my own maintenance since I got my Honda Fit 2015 since it saves a ton of money, and I'm not planning on stopping unless absolutely necessary. Just completed my third oil change without going to a place to do it. I use Kirkland full synthetic engine oil from Costco. I'm going to need to replace the front breaks and rotors asap, but at least I know with the brake pad wear indicator.
Can anyone please listen at this recording and give me some possible explanations to what the problem is? And also, how would I fix it? It's this rattling noise coming from the front of the car. I'm still learning about cars, watching a lot of YouTube like ChrisFix, but still very much a noobie. I was so proud to do a near perfect oil change my 3rd try with oil levels perfectly in the middle. I'm hoping to stay on top of my maintenance. I had just paid off my 2015 Nissan Sentra SV a couple years ago, but the transmission went bad. I'm hoping to do better this time around.
I added it as an attachment. I was sitting in my car with it on in a parking lot. You'll hear the noise stop when I move a little forward, then start again when I brake. Thank you all in advance for taking the time to read this.
Its hard to tell what it could possibly be. Do you have an auto or manual transmission? Does it make the noise in park or only in drive? Have you heard it with the hood popped up or only in the cabin? Hope that helps you narrow it down.

It's hard to tell from the recording, but my guess would be the heat shield on the catalytic converter. Mine made a rattling noise at time, and I bought a new shield. You should be able to reach underneath and poke the shield with a stick and see if it rattles. I got mine from Honda Parts Now for $62.58. You could buy it and bring it to any independent mechanic to install.
LOL, this is crazy!!! An hour ago, I was out driving and heard a rattling noise from my 2010 Fit Sport. Hard to tell where it was coming from; it was a metallic noise and I could sort of feel it through the gearshift lever (auto tranny). Didn't rattle with engine off. Jacked the car up, and saw that the catalytic converter heat shield was hanging loose on three sides. I was about two miles from home, so drover home and the last bolt gave out and the heat shield dropped to the road. Here is a pic. Yes, the noise stopped when it fell off the car. I'll probably order a new heat shield, jack the car, and see if the bolt attachment points are useable.
BTW, I didn't hear any rattling noises on the OP recording.
I think I can operate the Fit without the shield for now; I'll give it a go.

Yep! That's what rattles. I bought a replacement from Honda Parts Now for $63, delivered.
