Replacing Timing chain, VTC act., etc.
Hey everyone,
Been lurking on here for a while. Figured I would make an account now.
I own a 2015 Fit LX CVT. Bought it new, has about 138,000 miles on it. It's been a great car as far as I'm concerned. Taken it everywhere, but there are some big repairs (to me) that it needs now if I want to take it on another road trip. The cold start rattling noise with the VTC actuator has been there since I can't remember. Finally getting around to replacing it. However, when I get it into 2500 rpm and up, there's a different kind of rattling noise. First I thought was the transmission, but an oil change made it go away so figured it was the VTC. Now the noise is back and I read that timing chains can stretch and wear out prematurely with a faulty VTC actuator. So I ordered a new chain, VTC, and chain tensioner, along with the head cover gasket and liquid gasket which are going to arrive later this week. So, questions..
Has anyone done this job themselves? Any tips or tricks? It looks like I'll have to take off an engine mount to get the front engine cover off. Do I need to have support under the whole engine? Thanks in advance. Let me know if you all need more info. I've only ever changed the oil and filters by myself. The rest I've let indie shops take care of, but I need to save money right now or I'd let someone else do it.
