2019 EX with P0303 code and now dead battery

I’m the original owner; 35,924 miles, all maintenance UTD and completed at the Honda dealership.

Started to leave my house this past Saturday (it’s now Monday) and all sorts of messages started popping up, eg., TPMS problem, hill assist problem, etc. Husband used his OBDI scanner and it’s throwing a P0303 error code. Left it parked in the garage for the weekend. I didn’t know if it was safe to drive to the dealership or if I should have it towed, so I went to start it today and it’s dead. Battery barely has any juice. I am sitting in the car now, and I can hear a ticking - sometimes constant, other times sporadic. Husband says it sounds like a computer issue with the battery, but he’s out of state so can’t otherwise do anything to assess.

Safe to assume this will be covered under warranty? Does it bode poorly for its future reliability? Any advice on how to advocate at the dealership? I’m waiting for the tow truck now.

Welcome. Two problems at work here:

1. Dead battery / starting issues: The EX pushbutton start models are notorious for early failure of the start switch as well as the starter. Have the battery tested first to determine charge status. If it isn't the battery, likely the starter or start switch. Search this subforum for details. Should be covered under warranty.

2. P0303 DTC code = cylinder misfire #3. Unfortunately, third gen Fits (2015 onward in the US) are prone to fuel injector failure. Just had the injectors replaced on my '16 LX under extended warranty. This is what I suspect is starting to happen to you. Again, should be covered under warranty. Details on this subforum.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Thanks for your reply, bargainguy! The service advisor called this morning and said

1) the battery was dead, and would be replaced under warranty. I’m keeping the EX push start button issue in my back pocket, though, in case this continues to happen, and

2) the misfire code was due to excess carbon buildup. He said there is a TSB for that, and that the warranty would probably cover that repair/cleaning as well. Now I’m wondering if I should push for something else, like replacing the fuel injectors?

Excess carbon buildup is eventually what fouls the injectors, and the catalytic converter, etc.

If Honda is covering remediation of the carbon buildup under warranty, that's about all you can ask for now.

Honda will only cover the injectors when very specific codes are thrown. In the case of my '16 LX with 88K, it was code P0420, catalytic converter error.

Details in the link below, but long story short, they do a test to see if any of the cylinders fail, and if any do, they replace the entire system - injectors and rails.

One thing you might want to do in the meantime is run Top Tier fuel only. Much less chance of carbon buildup. I was running it almost exclusively in my LX.
