Manual transmission trouble, help? Ideas?

2015 fit manual transmission, 299090 miles literally JUST change the MTF 200 miles ago.

Driving through town today. With the clutch in, coming to a stop light, the engine started to stutter, then the gear shifter kicked in to neutral and the engine smoothed out. It wouldn’t go into any gear.

After the light changed and I let off the brakes, it started coasting downhill and easily slid into first but when I went to shift into second, it wouldn’t go into any gear again.

through experimentation in a parking lot pointing down, i found that if I was moving, I could get it into some gears with double clutching and some gears through clutchless shifting technics.

however, pushing in the clutch while in gear did NOT free the engine, it would have to be put into the neutral position to be disengaged from the transmission/drive.

so I just took it straight home and parked it on a hill in neutral and chocked the wheels. Got my truck out and finished my errands.

After the sun comes up, I’ll check the transmission fluid plugs and transmission fill,

but im looking for ideas to check if that’s not the problem.

Im also wondering if there’s any remote possibility of something peripheral being a possibility,

Sounds like your clutch cylinder, either master or slave, has defect.

I found two videos on gonna fit clutch repairs.

One in 07-14

one for a 2018

I’m going to go through both of these to hopefully see how to get to everything.

I’ll check out the suggestion on the master/slave cylinders when I start digging into everything.

if I end up having to remove the transmission regardless, I will also look into replacing the rear main seal, as it has been losing oil (without any smoke) since about 45k-50k miles and it would be nice to not have to check oil daily.

Happy to read any other helpful comments/suggestions anyone else has.

Losing oil for 250K miles seems like a pain (and not great for the ground you park on), so I would definitely deal with that.
Have you ever replaced the clutch? If not, at 300K miles it is time even if you're the best M/T driver in history.
But first, have you tried bleeding the clutch? I would try that alongside checking the master and slave cylinder as it sounds like the clutch is not disengaging/engaging properly.

Surprisingly, no obvious oil spots. Just seems to lose oil, most specifically with excessive idling. when idle times are reduced, oil consumption is reduced. And I've seen and heard of his issue with multiple Honda vehicles. If I had to guess I would estimate at least 60% of honda vehicles develop a mysterious oil usage sometime after 30k miles, some sooner than others.

Mileage is pretty much all OEM gear, with the exception regular maintenance items and the passenger cv axle due to issues from when a tire rotation failed to properly tighten the lug nuts and several came off at once and caused some damage requiring some repairs.

Currently I'm leaning towards pulling the transmission, replacing the seal, clutch, and cylinders, just to keep it going longer between problems, but I do want to identify the source of the problem versus just throwing parts at it.

I am setting up a garage tent we have and will get my sons to help me push it into the tent, and of course with any labor I can't do in my crippled condition. Hopefully I will be able to see and identify what happened as we progress.

yea, i don't think a bad clutch would give you intermittant problems like that. does sound like the slave does need to be looked at. they do go, the one in my '02 SI
went on me. started acting funny for a few days, then went altogether .as i remember the pedal was going to the floor. also, the replacement didn't last that long as it started to leak within a year ! (had a small crack in the housing)
was a bear to get at , was stuffed way up under the windshield
also, check the gearshift linkage , check the cable.( stretching?)

my vote is the actual clutch or pressure plate has failed but i hope its the clutch cylinder, a good starting point, i assume we can see our clutch fork moving?

When the master cylinder and/or the slave fail… it could cause those issues and the oem MC having the Clutch Delay Valve … it could be…. If so… i recommend to change obviously both of them and use the EM1 civic MC since the bolt pattern is the same one and it doesn’t have the CDV … so the clutch pedal will feel like a normal 92-2000 civic 🥸

This sounds interesting

we have had a lot going on and I'm still trying to get a decent spot to work on it, but I will consider this when tearing everything apart
