hello i am looking to replace the shift boot on my gk5 but it is difficult to find what is exactly compatible if there was a compatibility , for the gk5 version , there is not a lot of choice
i mean technically you can get whatever shiftboot if youre not using the stock knob,, and what ever aftermarket boot i would match with that said knob or vise versa.
as well you can just get a aftermarket boot and just put it on if its made for the stock one,, and or,, a random aftermarket boot and rigg it up good
1) Removed center console
2) Remove shift boot bezel and all staples securing the vinyl boot (several plastic tabs had cracks from the staples
3) Label all 4 pieces, remove boot, then removed stitches from old boot
4) Use a steam iron and wet towel to flatten all 4 pieces of old boot
5) Trace each boot piece onto leather, cut and sew it up
6) Installed the aftermarket aluminum shift boot collar
7) Drill a single hole in each of the plastic tabs that were previously stapled to the old boot
8) Install new leather boot, using an awl to poke holes in the leather tabs and zip tie them to the plastic tabs
9) Reassemble center console and knob
If you get a generic aftermarket boot, just trace out the tabs onto the new boot and cut them so that they’re the same. Re-install and that’s it.
