New key fob, can I program myself?

I've obtained a new key fob for my 2015 LX. This is for keyless entry only.

Is it possible to program this myself? I tried using a method I read about but this seemed to trigger the immobizer. Oops.

I did it for my '16 LX when the first key battery died not too long ago.

Just replacing the key battery doesn't work. Once the key battery loses juice, it's no longer linked to your car.

You'll need a key programmer and one working key.

If you don't have a working key - "all keys lost" situation - a more sophisticated key programmer is required.

Local Honda dealer wanted $185 to reprogram. The key programmer I bought was about half that.

Does that one have key programming features? It looks more like a diagnostic tool than anything else.

This is the one I bought:

https://www.topdon.us/products/topsc...44804057432342

Fair warning: You only get one year of reprogramming capability with the unit. After that, it's a subscription to get it back.

I bought this new on ebay and I thought it was lifetime, not subscription-based (only the diagnostic stuff is lifetime).

It wasn't mentioned at time of purchase. I don't recommend this one.

Theoretically yes for locking, unlocking and panic features, but not for starting the car. LX is key start only and EX is pushbutton start only.
