Exactly which oil for 2019 Honda Fit EX?

I live in Los Angeles. I brought a 2019 Honda Fit EX from Carmax last year. it came due for an oil change, no big deal I thought as I've been getting my cars oil changes for decades however this time was different in that the Honda Fit is the 1st car I've ever owned that requires full synthetic oil, all my other cars have used conventional oil. Synthetic oil cost more but as that's whats required I got it done at Pepboys. They used Pennzoil Platinum Premium Synthetic Oil OW-16.

Pennzoil Platinum® Full Synthetic Motor Oil | Pennzoil®

On page 501 of the owners manual it says this

Genuine Honda Motor Oil
• Premium-grade 0W-16, 0W-20 detergent oil with an API Certification Seal on the
container.
However in doing some research there are those who day the 0W-16 AND 0W-20 weight is too thin and may not protect the engine as 5W-30. 0W-16/20 is supposed to be for better gas milage but I'm more concerned about protecting the engine from weat and tear. I'm confused so I'm putting it out there. JUST exactly what grade oil to use for a 2019 Honda Fit EX that is best for the engine?

Good answer!
I've always used 0W20 (and usually Pennzoil Platinum at that). The best comment that I've seen online in the "which grade" arguments is that the grade you choose isn't as important as the frequency of oil changes which should be every 5000 miles.

"it came due for an oil change" Of course it did! Why would they spend $20 if they can get by without spending it. 🤣

We've put over 100,000 miles on two Fits - 2015 and 2020 - using synthetic 0W-20. No problems. Many people say that Honda recommends 0W just to get good mileage. I really don't mind getting good mileage. 😁 If 0W-20 was destroying engines, I think there would be lots of factual evidence about that.

@airman23 Where does it say use only fully synthetic? Why would you use anything other than what the OEM recommends?

I use Amsoil Signature Series, which is fully synthetic like Pennzoil Platinum, and I use the weight that is recommended in my Owner's Manual, which is 0W20 for the 2nd Gen.

I have a 2017 but it's the same engine afaik. Here's the page in my owner's manual. Note that you may use synthetic; it's not required. I run synth because it gets darned cold here in the winter. But that's where I live.

I don't know what the current situation is but the last time I checked a few years ago 0W20 was only available in synthetic.
