Honda Fit 2004 Engine Oil

Hellow fellas,
My Fit is reducing engine oil. The car is 165,000kms driven. There is a weird sound while driving looks like a transmission sound.
Any reason behind reduction in engine oil??
thnx .

Oil reduction? You mean it consume oil?

Mine will personately take approx. 0.5l of oil in an oil change interval of 15k km... She have 140k km so it's no big deal for me! My engine is also experiencing piston slap now... when it's hot, it sounds like a Subaru or Dodge Neon at idle... eh!

Marko!!

Yeah, it consumes oil. What oil should I use? The consumption is worrying me.

What weight oil do you use? Try a thicker weight oil like 10w30. As the engine gets older the clearances get bigger and thin oil can get past easier.

Be wary of just increasing oil viscosity, like going to 30 weight. There are lots of tight clearances that likely haven't increased.
If thats the case
But before you do anything you need to take your engine up to 4000 rpm under load and quickly release the accelerator, If you see blue ciolored exhaust your problem is piston rings are letting oil pass and you need new piston rings. Or valve seals.
If thats too costly or inconvenient keep a close eye on yoiur oil level and top it off when it gets half a liter down from full.
As for the sound have you checked your transmission oil level and condition? Without hearing the sound or even a description there's no way for us to help.
good luck.

Is your car leaking oil as well? Park it over night in the street and check for oil or look under the engine to see if there is a lot of grease. If not than your car is burning oil and that can be anything from piston rings like the other guys are saying or bad bearings and seals. I bought my car brand new and since then have always used Mobil-1 oil 5W-20 but you must use that filter too because what's the point in using good oil and using a cheap filter? My car still never loses oil. Try using Mobil-1 high mileage synthetic.

One more thing keep using the recommended oil weight because it might work fine but it will also cause more stress to your engine seals and hurt your MPG. 5W20

First off 30 weight is with in Honda specifications. In Germany they probably use 40wt. If there is no oil leaks then thicker weight oil will reduce oil consumption. Oil will flow a little slower at start up but would be fine unless below 0 degress. Mpg drop would be around 2 percent using a 30 wt oil. The only reason thinner wt oil is out is to help the cafe standard get better mpg. More oil can burn because of thinner oil and oil needs to be check frequently especially if going to 15 percent on MM after 3000 miles.

The OP did not come back to answer what oil and how much is burning and has no year or engine size on his profile so we are guessing.

We are guessing but a car shouldn't be burning oil in my opinion and the recommended weight is good for all weather conditions. No matter what he does it's not going to stop burning oil unless he rebuilds the motor which I'm sure he's not going to want to do. The recommendation I gave was to prevent it from getting worse. Besides Synthetic wouldn't burn off so easily.

A car with 107000 miles on is going to burn some oil. The whole thing about thinner oil is that it gets to the pistons and form a seal fast but as the engine wears the oil can not make that film so more oil is burned. There might be valve seals leaking too. So either way rebuild the motor or try using thicker oil which 30/40 wt is used in other countries that don't have the bitter cold weather the USA can have. There are people on this site that uses 10w30 in there cars and oil consumption is lower. Synthetics would burn more oil if the motors burning oil. Synthetics has better hydro lubrication like for a hydraulic lifter but for slide lubrication there is no benefit. That is why Honda uses Moly. Synthetic oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ester oil base is a different story in a turbo and other high stress situations and can last forever or pretty close in a sealed motor.
