2015 vs 2020 - Another Difference

In taking the dash apart on my 2015, I noticed a difference, favoring the 2015. Just below the heat controls is a panel with a 12v outlet, HDMI port, and USB port. My son' s 2020 does not have the HDMI port. I've never used it, and I don't imagine I ever will. I guess Honda figured it was an unnecessary expense adding them to every car.

I added another 12v outlet there. There's a second extra 12v outlet in the passenger's footwell and a third in the rear hatch area, both controlled by switches on the left side of the dash.

And here I was wondering what happened to the 8 track players they used to put in cars.

For a while there, most cars had standardized DIN dash openings for the stereo. When some new media format or tech came along, you could pop out the old stereo and slide a new one in. Now it's mostly infotainment units with rear housings that still fit that standard, but the controls and screen are part of the proprietary dash panel. The infotainment units are mostly Android-based, but there's no regulations requiring manufacturers provide apps or interface info that would enable upgrades. To the contrary - any attempts at collaborating with others or sharing info could get shut down under anti-"hacking" or copyright laws; Very anti-consumer and anti-sustainability.
Just another check mark in the "automotive engineering peaked in the 90's" column.

I installed one in my 1965 Ford, and I added a reverberator!
