Insurance rates

The other day someone posted they got some high rates. I talked with my agent today and even though no ratings are available for the 15's he used the 13. I currently have a chevy cobalt that will be replaced and he said perhaps a $5 increase in premium and that may come down after the new crash tests get posted. Moral to the story, dont let rates spook you off.

I'm paying $50 a month right now. What are they going to get scared off by?

Someone here had gotten some really high quotes but it was online. So many variables in the industry to judge by but to perhaps calm the fears of some from the hype I posted to show nothing to be nervous about.

Yeah, I bet the new ones will be just as cheap as the GE8's. I guess I just misread what you wrote.

My 2013 Civic cost more to insure than my 2011 Fit, and did not expect the new one to be more than the Civic either. I have USAA and great driving record, and they gave me a quote a tad less than the Civic a few days ago.

I just got a quote last week. My zip is not considered "high risk" like a large town, so keep this in mind. I have a defensive driver course taken, with all of my "3 year" report clean. My 5 year has a few accidents but they are no longer calculated.

I am 24 Female!

From State Farm:
My 2007 Honda fit only has basic coverage needed in the state of Texas and I am paying $370 for every 6 months. That is $61 a month.

My 2015 Honda Fit, with the full coverage minimum in the state of Texas, with a $500 deductible I got a quote from State Farm for $690 every 6 months, that's $115 a month. Now, this is the LOWEST I've personally gotten on a quote and plan to buy this. With my 2007 and my 2015 both on the same insurance, one having just liability and the other full coverage, that's around $1,000 per 6 months. They said there could be further discounts OR it could go up if I do have something on my record they didn't notice, which I don't.

They did have some difficulties getting the quote as "2015" wasn't even in their system yet though.

I also filled out several quotes from other places with pretty crazy results...

Allstate gave me $1,000 with their "online" quote, then called me the next day as they always do, and then gave me a "real" $1,600 quote for both cars per 6 months (WTF?)

Progressive gave me $1,000 online and called next day. Told them Allstate just gave me a quote for $1,600 and that it was pretty crazy. They laughed at it and then turned around to give me a $1,400 quote. Again, WTF. I hung up on them lol.

So State Farm it is... Note that I also have my Homeowners insurance with them so that's where the further bundle discount might come from.

This sounds like crazy money to me. We bought a 2013 Prius C small hatchback last year and GEICO offered the lowest quote with WAYYYYY more coverage than any of the insurance companies with rep offices. For 25 year old male as main driver and in a higher risk area (Denver) than where you live. $273.69 6 month premium and that is for 300k/500k bodily injury, 100k property damage, comprehensive $250 deductible, collision $250 deductible.

If you were to cause an accident at the minimum coverage in Texas (which I imagine is low), would you be able to financially recover from that? I know I could not. Probably you could pay a lot less per month with a lot more coverage and eliminate a lot of risk.

ITEM LIM/DED

Liability Each Person 100k $167.00
Liability Each Accident 300k
Property Damage 100k $132.00

UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST -
Bodily Injury per person 50k
100k per accident $48.00

UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST
Each Accident 50k
Property Damage $250 Ded. $21.00

Towing $120 no ded.

Ok, that is pretty decent coverage! The state minimums in Texas and Colorado (I've lived in both) are just so ridiculously low that if you carry that and cause an accident you might bankrupt yourself. It's a big risk for not really that much monthly savings.

When I was shopping for car insurance a year ago, GEICO was soooo much lower than all of the carriers I quoted (Allstate, State Farm, Amica, esurance, Progressive). I would check them out if I were you. But that's just IMO

Do any of these numbers involve gap insurance? If I recall correctly, that's something that Honda Financial requires if you don't put enough down.

This one I posted above is with my older fit. I will post new quote in 2 weeks when I purchase insurance on my new 2015 itemized like that one. When I got the quote 3 weeks ago they could not give me an itemized one because they gave me a manual quote (couldn't find 2015 fit in their system)

I'm not sure about gap insurance, I've never heard of it and I am putting down 13k on my new one. :{

Gap insurance covers you incase you buy a vehicle and carry over a balance which makes the loan worth more then the insurance value of the car so in case you have a total loss gap insurance picks up the difference between what you owe and what the car was worth. Gap insurance is real common in the rv industry.

If you need GAP insurance you didn't have enough to buy the car in the first place.

To me that says that Honda does not view their cars as being worth what they are selling them for.

And yet I managed to pay my car off in full in half the financed time. Guess I didn't have enough though just because Honda Finance forced gap insurance on the vehicle.

Don't twist my words to mean something else. I said you didn't have enough, not that you wouldn't eventually have enough.
