Does that sound right to you? Do newer car models require less frequent oil changes due to new technology or something?
Oil has come a long way, nowadays something like 7,500-10k mile intervals is commonplace. And many newer vehicles with oil life indicators use algorithms to calculate distance, time, engine loads, etc to tell you when to change the oil. Time/distance isn't necessarily the standard anymore.

Also, looked at an EX-L this week, got a long look under the hood and even underneath. There is boatloads of room under the hood and everything is laid out very nicely, very methodically, self maintenance should be a breeze.

Radiator is going to be a PITA to remove (it's under what seems like a permanent metal panel and may need to be removed from the bottom).

Thermostat is much lower and has no room around it. Started is also behind some part that may be difficulty to remove (has either wires or tubes going around it).
The alternator is lower and also buried behind accessories.
I took pictures of what I am talking about if anyone is interested.

These two statements sound contradictory lol

Where's the oil filter located and how accessible is it?

I have no prior reference with older Fits... for "routine" maintenance it looks fine, yes a radiator will probably be a PITA,... but I've seen more cramped engine bays for sure.
It didn't look like an old GM where you had to remove corner chassis braces just to swap a battery, or borrow a 5 year old to get a hand down somewhere. The handy will probably be fine, the less initiated; probably still fine for the normal maintenance ...its a honda right? Oil n tires
