I crafted an armrest extension cushion!!! check it out!

I really disliked the armrest, or lack of one.....so I made an extension. I used to work upholstery for Cessna building seats and interior panels for years so I knew I could make something that would work and still have the didn't interfere with opening the console lid. Now, keep in mind, I didn't have easy (or quick) access to the quality materials that was used at Cessna, I found these items at the local craft and hardware stores. It is removable if necessary. It does slide around a tiny bit, but it does serve it's function as an armrest. If I were to do it again, I would probably make it about an inch longer or so in front and it still won't interfere with the emergency brake. I would also add a hook inside the lid at the inner corner to grab the material and cord. Turned out pretty good for a first attempt with something that was just in my head and not on paper.

That's pretty nifty, nice DIY job.

i realized why the armrest is so low. When you go into refresh mode with both front seats, the armrest is flush between the two seats.

Can you take a picture sitting in the seat and your arm on your extender?

Me thinks K should go commercial. With that quality and "Made in the USA" I'm gonna be first on the list.

Go Kelly go!!!

PM me on the cost shipped to WA. state. (to ship here will cost me crazy!!!).

As for your relationshp to Cessna, sorry, I'm a Beechcraft boy!!! My first and last single fixed wing was a Sundowner.

Good thing it's removable. I think the best way to see is to see a before and after. I'm short: 5'1" so my arms are short as well.

Before install:

Wow, that is pretty high. Looks good but that is telling how low the center console really is. I flipped up my arm rest last night. Brought back memories of my '09 with no armrest. Aside from a little elbow support, I'm not sure if the armrest really matters, for me anyway. I can at least flip up my armrest and see how it goes longer term. Nice job though. You perfect that and mass market it, you could make some ca-ching!

Btw- it looks like the stock CC favors that passenger now! The stock one must have been designed to favor full refresh mode so there was nothing in that way.

Thanks, I sent you a pm. Don't have the shipping cost just yet. It's in the car and I would have to weigh it... It's 11:30 pm here and I need to get up for work in the am.

My dad works for Raytheon aka Beechcraft, aka Hawker Beechcraft. They are now owned by the same company that owns Cessna. So it's kinda the same place now...weird. I actually went back to school and changed professions after Cessna laid me off. Now I'm in IT.

It's actually tied down under the lid with a cord that secures it. I have to loosen the cord to remove it.

Got the PM. I wanna be the first. We'll figure out the funds transfer.

Ya gotta thank Beechcraft/Cessna for re-organizing. Your in IT now and am sure the better-bucks are well worth the transfer!!!!

Seriously think you may have a nice armrest add-on for the GK. When I get mine, will certainly put it to the test!!!!! (assuming my damn LX arrives)

See if it fits into a flat rate box from USPS. That is one of the most economical ways to ship things to Hawaii, provided the item fits into one of the different sized boxes. Anything you can stuff into one of those ships, regardless of weight, up to 70lbs.

Necessity is always the mother of invention. Good job!

Velcro might keep it from sliding around..."after-marketeers" no doubt will be producing these soon. I actually don't find the armrest uncomfortable....necessity is the mother of invention.

That's nice work. You have come up with a solution for something that just might be the single biggest disappointment of this car. Perhaps you stumbled into a future business.

Great job on the armrest!
I agree with everyone else, if you're interested in a small sideline business you could have a really big time hit on your hands here. I'll wait until I actually get our Fit to decide, but I suspect I will be interested as well.
Thanks for sharing!

Found this on a European/Spainish FIT forum. Its for the 2015 FIT, is higher and also incorporates storage. I may try and see if I can order from over seas. Could be a challenge lol! But its nice to know Honda does make one for the new 15 FIT.

I followed the link in a thread to see that same armrest. When I looked at another pic that showed the inside, it looks very much like the oem add-on for my 2011. The storage isn't as deep and you lose your outlets. I'm not sure I want to give those items up. I'm still going to try to get the one I'm fabricating better. I guarantee it will be cheaper! :P

I also noticed a few pages later, it looks like they have to remove the center console to install. They have to add those two brackets that are in your pic in plastic then install the armrest to that bracket. Seems like a lot of work.

Not really too bad….I feel certain Honda will make this available for those are unhappy with the present arm rest.
