Trouble locating an EX-L. Your experience?
Trouble locating an EX-L. Your experience?
Hi everyone. First post!
I've been on the prowl for an EX-L (in silver or grey) and the dealers in my area seem to rarely have those in stock. Lots of LX and EX models, though!
The dealers in my area are doing different things with customers waiting on the EX-L: wait list, first come first serve, and "special order".
I'm suspicious of the special order option, as I was told it would arrive in 1-2 days. If that's possible, wouldn't everyone do that to ensure they get the color and trim they're after?
What was the timeline you experienced in securing your 2015 Fit?

Three dealers in my "commuting" area (Virginia Beach), and only one had any in stock. Seems the supply chain is still tightly controlled. First dealer had just gotten two in, but one was pre-sold, and the other was sent to an affiliate dealership in the next city over. Second dealer had one gray LX manual in stock but no silver automatic EX's were expected for quite awhile. Third times the charm though, as the last dealer had 5 in stock including 3 silver, one each at LX, EX, and EX-L trim levels. I ultimately purchased the EX.
All the dealers in my area seem to have almost all EX, followed by EX-L, Followed by just a couple LX and EX-L with Navi. Of course most of these are "in transit" they leave the lot almost as soon as they land on it.
We want a White EX. 1 local dealer said they have 1 coming by the end of August. A different dealer found one that is supposed to be coming to a dealer about 200 miles away by the end of the month. They've agreed to trade cars. So we put down a deposit and we're waiting, and waiting, and waiting! And buying accessories while we wait!
The only way 1 - 2 days makes sense is if they can find one on the ground at another dealer within a reasonable distance and trade cars. From what the local dealers have said, along with everybody's experience on here, I don't think the dealer really gets to "order" anything. They can just check to see what Honda is going to ship to them or another nearby dealer.

I just finished a long hunt for an LX CVT in Blue near me, and let me say that dealerships promised all kinds of "oh yes, we can find one for you" ... "I can get one for you in a couple days" ... etc. etc. and ended up delivering jack squat.
If it is not on the lot RIGHT NOW, then you really cannot have any idea when it will be here. I even had one dealership show me their shipping and delivery estimates from their computer system. Guess what? 9 days after the outside date their system said to expect delivery? It's still not on the lot and they cannot give me any specific date when it will arrive.
Seriously, I can track my $20 Amazon shipments with greater precision than they seem to be able to track a car.
Keep checking cars.com inventory search every day or two. You can look specifically for the EX-L trim. Then ask the dealer directly: is the car on the lot available for pickup now? That was the best way for me to actually find what I wanted.

My dealer's first shipment of '15 Fits had 3 cars.
I wanted a Modern Steel Metallic EX-L but settled with the Silver.
I've only seen 2 LX anywhere in town. Seems like the LX is hard to come by around here.
- Alabaster Silver EX-L w/ Nav (which I got)
- Modern Steel Metallic EX
- Crystal Black LX

It took me about two weeks to find a blue EX-L. There were none in the state of Virginia. All three dealers who told me they could get me one in a few days, were unable to get me one even after an entire week.
One day I called every single Honda dealer in Maryland. Two dealers had one. I drove one hour to get it. I'm very happy.
Do not rely on the website inventories. They are not accurate. Call the dealer and have them go out in the lot and look. Silver or gray is a common color, you should be able to find one.

Placed a deposit on 7/12 on the first silver EXL arriving at my dealer, they have 2 that should have been there at the end of July... Approaching 4 weeks tomorrow... Sure hope it's not September before it arrives...

Too bad you are not looking for a black Fit EX-L, because I see that McMinnville Honda shows one in stock on their lot.
I realize that McMinnville is about an hour's drive from some parts of Portland, but it's a lot closer than the 600 mile drive I had to get home from them with the white LX MT Fit we bought 2 weeks ago... At least do yourself the favor of checking out their pricing (they advertise and sell below MSRP) and while they list all Fits they are expecting on their website, they will only have photos of the ones actually at the dealership.
If you check with them, talk to John Klein in sales and tell him I said "hi".
Good luck.
Exl
I finally got my Milano red EXL w/navi last week. My dealer worked long and hard and finally got it from another dealer across the state. Even he was surprised!
I'm loving it.... I think it's quite a lot quieter than my 2009 Fit and much easier to get in and out of. We're averaging 41mpg and that's a lot of in town driving as well as highway.

Amazing how things can change in 24 hours! I'm still waiting for my blue EX-L w/Navi to arrive, but finally after 4 weeks of nothing it at least shows up on cars.com. Maybe another four weeks?
Sacramento CA '15 Fits
I've been waiting for more than 8 weeks to find an EX in Pearl White. Searched many dealers and one manager in Clovis said that he'd heard that the new Mexican plant was having severe computer and quality problems and wouldn't ship those not meeting their specs. I am a bit apprehensive about them being made in Mexico. I hope Honda maintains its quality. My 08 had 202K miles with no problems and 40-48mpg in mixed driving. The dealers give promises, promises. I find it interesting that Honda doesn't tell dealers anything in advance about their cars. I've been told for over a year that the '14 Fit was coming "any week now." The same all through the spring with the '15. I'm thinking of switching to a Toyota.
My dealer in NJ has a few Fits that come in here and there, usually two or three at a time. We have been in the same boat as customers. First Fits were suppose to come in around May, which became Summer. While we do get a few Fits here and there, I wouldn't consider it a full launch yet.
Best thing to do is check with your local Honda dealer as far as in-transit Fits and reserve one. It's better than just waiting for one to arrive that has not been reserved. My dealer, for example, currently has one EX-L coming in, which will probably be sold before it arrives.
Just my advice.

Thanks HondaGeek
I've offered to do that with one dealer who declined. After reading the forum about problems with some of the '15 Fits, I'll be sure to check out details of paint and fit carefully. Out here on the West Coast, one can find black and red much more readily than the other colors.
