Display Audio issues
Display Audio issues
So today I experienced two issues with the Display Audio system that were a little disconcerting.
First, when I was out for a drive, I noticed LaneWatch was taking way longer than usual to come on. The screen would go dark immediately on signaling or on pressing the button but it would take about 3 seconds before the video came on the screen. Restarting the car seemed to fix this.
Later, I started the car and the disclaimer screen came on as normal. But when I tried to push OK the screen froze. Restarting the car had the screen going completely black (no welcome screen or anything). I decided to continue my trip anyway and about 45 seconds later the system came right up like nothing had happened (no welcome screen though).
I'm going to try and get to a dealer this week and hopefully get the unit swapped out.
I've accepted that this car is version 3.0 and like any x.0 version of new tech, there will be bugs. Still having tons of fun with the car despite this.

I pressed the LaneWatch button on the highway and the rear view camera appeared. I captured a video of it happening to prove I am not crazy.
There are definitely some bugs to be worked out. I wonder if we will all have to bring our Fits to a dealer for a software update.

I actually had the LaneWatch problem crop up again on the way to the dealer today. Anyway, just got back from the dealer (not the same place I purchased it as that was way out of the way). They said they don't think the system was properly initialized during PDI as they were "able to reset it." I'm not sure what exactly that means but it sounds like there's some process that wasn't followed during PDI. May have been an oversight on the part of the selling dealer as this was the first 2015 Fit they delivered.
They performed the system reset (this is not the same as the reset all settings option) and I noticed that it cleared out trip MPG averages on the dash and current/previous MPG on the display but not the "historical" MPG readings. For whatever reason it doesn't clear out any user defined settings on the system either so I'm not sure if those are stored in some type of NVRAM that's not affected by a reset. Also, not that I was concerned that it wasn't but they considered it warranty service (it's the type of dealer that if my past experience is any indication, if it wasn't warranty it would be free anyway).
So far so good, but the problem only cropped up twice so we'll see if it fixes it.

This happened to me today. The lanewatch didn't work it showed the back up camera. Also, the radio froze up. I only had display and no sound. I shut the car off once and immediately started it back up and it didn't fix the problem. Shut the car off again, let it sit for a few minutes, started it back up and it worked fine. Not cool for a new car to do this.
So I did some snooping on techinfo.honda.com (paid for a short term subscription anyway) and found a block diagram for how the system works. Both video feeds (and sort of the HDMI input) are processed by the same subsystem, so these issues are likely fixed with software updates. It also appears that there's an SD card that holds the OS for the system, so it should be a simple process to update.
If it happens again on my car, I'm going to put the unit into diag mode and see if any errors are being thrown and if the system reports the camera subsystems as being ok. That should confirm whether or not it's just a software issue.
